1. Are you familiar with SACD? DSD?
Yes and Yes

2. Do you own any SACDs?
Yes.

3. If so, what percentage of your collection is SACD vs CD or files?
I own roughly about 200-250 SACD's so about 2% of my music collection.
My entire collection is about 50% digital with the rest split with analog and CD's.

4. Is SACD/DSD decoding an important consideration when you're looking for a DAC?
With high res files, yes. Other than that, I have a dedicated SACD player.

5. If you owned a DAC that could be upgraded to playing SACD/DSD, what would you pay for the upgrade?
No more than $150 including shipping.

Hey all,

It's that time of year again--time we pick your brains. The topic of SACD and its associated DSD datastream have come up in questions about our DAC products, and we want to know what you think about it.

So, in order:

1. Are you familiar with SACD? DSD?
Yes

2. Do you own any SACDs?
Yes

3. If so, what percentage of your collection is SACD vs CD or files?
Sacd 10 %, Cd 60%, files 30%(not counting the rips of my actual cds owned in files)

4. Is SACD/DSD decoding an important consideration when you're looking for a DAC?
Definitely, as my receiver cannot accept native dsd

5. If you owned a DAC that could be upgraded to playing SACD/DSD, what would you pay for the upgrade?
Depending on price on mods

That's it. Please let us know what you think by May 15, 2012 in this thread to enter for your chance to win a Schiit Bifrost with USB. We'll announce the winner, chosen by random drawing, within a few days afterwards.

Thanks to all in advance for participating!

Hi Jason,

Here's my opinion
Quote:
1. Are you familiar with SACD? DSD?
Yes

2. Do you own any SACDs?
Yes

3. If so, what percentage of your collection is SACD vs CD or files?
5% SACD, 20% CD, 75% Files (10% of which are High Definition Recording/Encoding)

4. Is SACD/DSD decoding an important consideration when you're looking for a DAC?
Not so much, as it is hard to find SACD. Need to import most of the titles from Japan. But if there are more SACDs available, definitely important!
DSD sounds much more dynamic than PCM.

5. If you owned a DAC that could be upgraded to playing SACD/DSD, what would you pay for the upgrade?
Probably around half price of the DAC itself. It has to be better than the in-built DAC all SACD players have these days though. But it will definitely benefit from a good output stage of a decent external DAC has.

Cheers,

Not really. At the moment important features are 24/192 / Optical / USB
5. If you owned a DAC that could be upgraded to playing SACD/DSD, what would you pay for the upgrade?
If the upgrade cost is justifiable for the additional feature. At the moment it seems like just future proofing.
