Swipe up from the main play screen, disable Direct Sound mode will take you to the EQ setting screen.

On the EQ setting screen hit the Tool Box icon on the bottom right and then select "Tone Control", that will give you the three dial style tonal setting screen instead of the 10 band equalizer. Hit the Tool Box icon again and select Equalizer to go back to the 10 band equalizer.

Thankyou so much I finally found the Tone setting screen the Sony WM1Z Manual isn't very clear on their explanations. It's good we have more options to improve sound quality settings on Sony Daps.

WARNING ABOUT SONY. I spent $1200 on the Sony Walkman NW-ZX2 when it came out in early 2015. It came with Android 4.2.2 and is still running 4.2.2. I have contacted Sony several times through many channels about upgrading the version of Android that the device is running but Sony absolutely refuses to upgrade Android on their own Walkman device. It's not like they don't have the knowledge; Sony has Android phones and tablets which they do update. They've just decided that those of us who spent the $1200 on the NW-ZX2 aren't worth the trouble. As Android advances and apps are adapted to the new versions of Android, app comparability is starting to become a problem. Get this: Sony's own Android app "Sony Music Center", which replaced Song Pal - which is no longer available - will not install on Android 4.2.2 showing error message " Your device isn't compatible with this version". It's Sony's own hardware and software! This new Walkman NW-WM1Z does not run on Android. It runs on proprietary software. That will limit your audio source choices and you still have no guarantee at all if you're going to get any firmware or software. Stay away from Sony's audio devices. They'll burn you. It's not worth it especially considering that the NW-WM1Z costs $3200. There are other brands and devices out there. You don't need Sony. Look elsewhere.

Yeah who needs Sony?...decided to give up my 1Z and switch to the upcoming S8 as source, since Samsung can promise me regular Android updates :astonished:

Your post doesn't offend me, I don't care either way. But we bought the dac for the highest possible quality music playback and Android os will limit that. If you want apps then buy a phone or something. My LG phone has four DAC chips and will always have the latest Android version. Buy that.

It's not sonys fault for not catering to casual Android users wanting to play flappy bird on the best made dap ever created.

Before you spend money in the future just do more research first and you won't get burned. We don't need the warnings because everyone here is well informed already. Good luck

Scarry stuff. Just made up my mind to punish Sony by torturing their WM1A and Z5 with a Mahler cycle plus some Dream Theater overnight.

As tempting as it is to poke fun at someone in an online forum, Willb has got a point. Personally, I couldn't care less about streaming services such as Spotify and the like. But the ability to support all streaming Apps that are made for Android
was a major selling point for many who bought the ZX2 back in the days, especially since rival products such as the AK380 did not support external applications. Many people in the ZX2 thread bought this device just because of that reason. And please do not forget that, with the introduction of 16bit streaming (24bit streaming is coming soon as MQA becomes more and more available), using streaming services as an audiophile is a viable alternative.

The way Sony is handling this situation is quite telling....

With nearly ALL streaming services struggling to make any money at all, I'm not sure that the claim it is a "viable alternative" is true. It won't be surprisingly to me at all that a few of the big streaming services will go bottom up very soon (looking at Tidal - which got their third CEO in just two years - they are most definitely struggling to make a sustainable business plan despite name recognition). We are really only in a transitional period and I don't think Sony is necessarily wrong in sitting on the sideline for this one, especially since they have said that a lot of their users of ZX2 actually didn't want streaming (remember folks - on the internet the loudest voices gets heard first, but they are not necessarily the majority).

The (still) lack of hi-fi streaming, the burden of that on bandwidth in general, and (perhaps more importantly) the missing artists and records on platforms means one have to subscribe to a few different platforms to have all the music he wants.............all that means streaming shall face a downfall sooner or later UNLESS one platform (or at most two) standout, clears the market by merger or simply strangling the surviving competitors, and centralizes everything. Which won't happen in the foreseeable future.

Before that I'm very happy with Sony's approach.
