I do wonder if that fabric shield was put in place by Sennheiser for a good reason.

Were the cones to become contaminated with grease or whatever, how would they safely be cleaned?

They are there shurely for protection against moisture. Senn. Has to put it in there as they simply cant have units send back with sand etc in the driver causing problems.

But the sonic benefits by far outweigh the cons for me.

Dirt cannot get behind the driver conus btw.

I have finally decided to mod my HD800, can anyone guide me where to buy the kit from?

I don't want to buy HD800s which is twice as costly as HD800.. 😂
Which mod? SDR? Anax? Ear pads? Hardwired cables? etc...

If SDR, you can try sending the creator a PM and see if he has any left or is still making them for people.
His username is Sorrodje.

Yup. Kinda out of the hobby right now, enjoying music with my HD800 as my only headphone and still making SDRs for whoever asks :beerchug:

Since i heard what taking off the filters do to the clarity of the sound.. i went all the way and removed the frames off the drivers.

I had the SDR mod installed there to tame the 6khz peak everyone knows..

Ok its fragile now without the frame but..
Boy the brightness is COMPLETELY gone!

This just sounds amazing and full bodied with texture.. the frame disperses the waves from the diaphragm a bit and the frame resonates on high frequencies.

The SDR donut dampens it.. but this removes the issue, the stage remains but its not artificial anymore.

Its in another league now. Just Bliss :)

@Reactcore Did you use screwdriver this time, correct? What type?
It was a mini torx (T-6) tool.
Also a soldering iron is needed to disconnect the wiring to get the driver out.

Now put back the black cloth so you don't damage the driver with your ear wax :k701smile:

That's very interesting indeed. So all Sennheiser had to do according to your experience, it's removing the frame And replacing it with something that didn't affect the sound?

So I'm thinking, what about making a sonically better protective grid? 3D printing or cut to shape?
