Sennheiser needs to release a 1.2m 3.5mm cable, a 1.2m 4.4mm cable, and a 3m XLR4 cable for these headphones ASAP!

I agree. Just don't price the cable at or above the HD560S cost though.
I absolutely agree.

Sennheiser's $239 CH 650 S cable for their 600-series is ridiculously overpriced for what it is.

Well, standard connectors. Anybody or your favorite shop can easily put together whatever cable you want.

DIY AH's site says "This headphone can be used directly out of a phone when you don’t feel the need to play very loud. Decently loud is no problem.
An external amp allows you to play impressively loud."

Even at 120 ohms, is it true this headphone doesn't require an amp and can run off a phone?

So an easier to drive, more detailed version of the HD600 with a wider soundstage, more extension for about $200?

Well, the Sennheiser site lists the sensitivity as 90 dB at 1 mW. That is significantly less than the HD 600. On paper, looks like almost a wash to me. I would not imagine them sounding tops out of a phone but it's gonna be a personal thing and also depend if you have a good amp to compare to.

I'm a bit vague in my understanding of where this sits in terms of sound quality. I have it somewhere between the HD58X Jubilee and the HD660s. Am I to believe it exceeds the HD600 in clarity and bass extension? It then becomes a question of preference vs the warm sound profile of the HD650/6XX?

Also, does this signal the end of any of the HD5x9 offerings? Specifically the HD599?
Yes, between the HD 58X and HD 660S in quality, though the presentation will be a bit different with the angled drivers.

I just placed my order. Looking forward to hearing it. Based on the reviews it will be a nice addition, something to add variety to the line-up and, why not, time to hear what a little extra sound stage means with the awesome Sennheiser 600-type neutral sound. Understanding that it won't (nothing will?) replace or come too close to the awesome HD-600. :)

As a very short aside on the price, and please don't cast stones, I own many, many Sennheiser sets, so I am definitely not being negative just to be difficult: a bit disappointed to see that the U.S. market gets it for $217 and in the EU we get it for €199. This difference doesn't cover the import costs really. In the EU we keep subsidizing the U.S. market (see Qobuz and many other EU companies). If Sennheiser were a U.S. company, this would be $199 in the U.S. (with massive sales frequently) and €250 in the EU with zero sales ever.
@Sennheiser @Evshrug

it says $217 plus applicable tax free shipping on product page, but at check out it says $199.99 free shipping, and 14 for my tax.

just wondering is there a hidden discount for pre-orders or something?

also, it says 60 day money back guarantee, but only 30 day refund policy. just curious which it is. never dealt with digital river calling before, are refunds easy with them if i end up not liking this? if i like it more than my hd58x im gonna sell my hd58x for around 90-100 and keep this :D
@caenlenfromOCN and @CaptainFantastic , the EU VAT was accidentally added to the price shown on the website... we’re fixing it now, but on checkout it is $199 + tax in the US 🇺🇸

Additionally, we use Digital River for managing our direct sales.

Whats the pad design like? Asking for a friend...
What friend? 😉
We included all compatible accessories on the “Head Gear” item page, for convenient reference for all reviewers and companies interested. These use the same pads as the HD 559.

Thanks! We think the included flexible “ponytail” 6.3mm to 3.5mm adapter is the safest kind of adapter to reduce physical stress on your equipment :)

would this be an upgrade coming from my 599?
They both are good, suited to different tastes. The HD 599 has a more bass-emphasized, “music enjoyment” tuning, while the HD 560S has a more balanced presentation of frequencies, as well as some changes to the driver membrane. Technically, it could be considered an upgrade, but subjectively some may prefer the warmer HD 599 sound... so there are options!

No you didn't. I don't run fullsize headphones off portable gear. I'm glad to see you guys shipping a fullsize headphone with a normal plug and an adapter for portables rather than the other way around
