I experienced the most amazing sound on these today with orchestral music. I was using my phone, and I turned on the virtual room effect, which normally makes everything sound really bad, but with these it makes the treble much more powerful and aggressive, which made orchestral music perfect for me. I loved it!

I'm thinking about buying some Etys now for outside now, though. I'd love to have some isolation from the world again.

No one really responded last time I asked, so I'll try again.

How much does the sound change when using the WS55 pads? Does it open up the soundstage a bit? I've used HM5 pads in the past, but I really enjoy the bass without the HM5s on so I probably won't use them anymore.

Also, is there no place to buy them other than ebay? $35 is a hefty price for pads, and I could get a pair of s400s for cheaper haha.

Just look through the past 10 or so pages, you will find what you need.

Should I as a beginner try these instead of an Grado SR80i (which I love, but isn't as portable (read, solid) as these)? This one is almost 3 times cheaper, so not really comparable but I would like to hear some opinions about it.

I'm waiting for s500 to arrive, and want to buy a good DAC under 100$

should i go for HiFimeDIY Sabre or Fiio e07k ?

or there is something better iam not aware of?

Desktop only or portable as well? If portable are you going to be just using a laptop only or is there a DAP involved?

Yes, these are much more versatile than the Grados. Also, the S500 have much better bass.

From what I understand, Grados are not un-portable because they're not solid, it's because they're open. The S500, hence, would be better for portable use based on that alone. i don't know where you got your Sr80i, but it shouldn't cost 3 times as much as the S500.

The Grado SR80i is in the Netherlands 139€ (yes that much!). The JVC is 56$, that is approximately 42€, so 3x as much as the S500.

With solid I meant the Grado's earpads/shell seem to me more vulnerable than these.

I got the SR60 first then the JVC and never put on the Grados anymore the JVC's are just to good sounding to go back to the SR60.
JVC has awesome bass that SR60 cant touch. Go for the JVC and if you want to save even more $ get the JVC HA-S400
