Jan 11, 2015 at 1:34 AM Post #16,051 of 18,652
As of right now, is the dx50/dx90 fully functional with the latest upgrade...? Some people say yes but I've heard the opposite from quite some people, too. I'm on the edge of pressing that big yellow button saying place order :D and I wanna make sure I can use it without much problems or should I go with some other dap? I'm battling between the two also. Any help? :)

DX50 currently $199 on Amazon and DX90 currently for $339 at massdrop.com. If you are in the US that is...

Hi!

well, that is because the DX50 is currently really offered with a substantial discount. Anyhow. I only have the DX50 and in my blind test with the AK100 Mk1 and Mk2 and X5 it held up very well actually. Is the DX90 worth it... I would say, it depends.

If you use it out and about the DX50 has substantial longer battery life.

If you value sounquality above all else, go with the DX90.

Cheers,
K

Are you definitely placing the firmware file on the internal memory and not the card?

Also, you're extracting the image from the zip folder first?

save all your music files somewhere else and do a factory reset, then try the update again.

Unless someone else has an ideas I can only think of doing a factory reset and see if it appears after. It's quite strange. Maybe full restore from the recovery menu may help.

Having issues trying to update to FW 6.1 would appreciate any help and advice. At present running 2.8 and Rockbox, when I try to update placing update file on J drive as per instructions the update is showing in advanced settings and allowes me to instigate update but no option for the new update shows in the selection available. Hope I've explained myself OK.

  DSF files and DFF files:
My dx50 plays dsf but not dff.
I'm using 1.5.0 firmware
Any suggestions?  Thanks!!

Here you have an explanation of the differences between DSD and DSF DFF:

DSD or Direct Stream Digital is a one bit recording format.  DSF and DFF are 'kinds' of audio dsd files that are delivered as downloads or read by software for playback.

DSF has the ability to hold metadata and DFF doesn't, however, some players only read DFF files, others only DSF.

In PCM recording, DSF and DFF would be similar to having .wav and .aiff files which are both PCM

More complex answers to the above question exists, but for those new to DSD, this is a simple explanation.

Quote:
Mine does that too. I have tried converting via jriver, but it usually just slows the music down (literally, the music goes at half the speed)

I converted with JRiver and it has worked. Note that the DFF file may be two speeds: 2.8224 Mhz (DSD64) and 5.6448 MHz (DSD128).
JRiver plays in the two speeds but you need to select from a popup menu.

  Greetings.

I guess you want to update from 1.2.8 with cwm to 1.6.0, don't you? If you do, you can follow the installation instruction on the rockbox+Dx50 thread. This will give you 1.6.0 + rockbox.

Hmmm DX90 sound quality beat the DX50,
if you score SQ DX90 is 80 then how about DX50? ..70 or 60?

note:
Score 10(bad) to 100 (best)
