Put your music in a folder on your desktop or anywhere on your Mac, desktop is good because you don't have to look for it. Open the app. Go to XLD>File and pull the drop down. Choose "Open a Folder." Direct it to your folder. Click to open the folder. Choose it. Your music will show up in a window. Go to Get MetaData. If you have an actual album, the chances are it will name your tracks and add the photo. If not, see if there is more in the dropdown. If not, you will need to go manual. Either way, your next stop is Edit MetaData.
Go to Edit MetaData. It will give you a popup of track 1. If Get MetaData worked, the info is already listed (track name, artist, etc.). Check to see if it is correct. I tend to remove everything except for track name, artist name, album name. Everything. YMMV. Hit NEXT and do track 2, then so on.
If no data popped up because you have a selection of songs that are not an album, or the album is not identified, you will have to manually add each field. When you finish the first, press Next. Go through the entire group of songs. I tend to copy and paste artist name throughout, then album name (it can be the actual album name or, if you are making a compilation, "Songs" or "Best" or whatever you want). THEN I enter the track name, which is time consuming. At the end of this, go to Google and search for a picture (either the actual album art or a picture that you like if it is a compilation you are making). Double click it, then drag it to the desktop. Then pull it into the little box at the upper left of the window.
When you finish, press OK. The tracks will show up in numerical order.
Go to XLD Preferences and choose the file format (FLAC, etc.) from the pulldown. You can also choose a Save folder if you wish. I don't.
Then press Transcode and direct it to the Save spot (I keep an untitled folder on the desktop for this). Then press Go and it will pop up a new window that shows each track being transcoded. When it finishes (you will know because it will show you), go to your untitled folder and check that the files are in there. Then rename the folder with the Artist name followed with a space and then the Album name (Neil Young Trans) or if a compilation you put together Neil Young Best or Neil Young Songs or whatever word you want. That is how it will show up in your Fiio. Make sure the album name in the MetaData you entered or is chosen is the same as the folder name. Drag that folder into your Fiio or your card via USB. Scan. Done. Oh, and create a new untitled folder on the desktop for the next album.
It will also rip a CD you have mounted on your system. Follow the same procedure.
