The Fiio X5 Thread
Apr 11, 2014 at 1:51 AM Post #6,736 of 19,652
I like the fact that Fiio is offering different options for players. My co-worker bought an X5 at the same time as me and he didn't like it. I brought him my X3 to demo and...... well let's just say he's buying my X3 tomorrow. He likes the warmer sound with his K550's. Choice is a good thing.

Well, I certainly didn't mean that I'm going to start filing bugs on a DAP I haven't even touched yet . I just know there are other X3 owners who pre-ordered the X5 and will be eager to help make it even better by participating in the bugzilla.

So, will we get 25 votes each for the X3 and X5, Joe?

Yes, you will also get 25 votes for the X5 separately from the X3. :)

I actually think he might've meant 32kbps files. It was a request from a user who wanted to put some very low bitrate files on his X3 - audio transcriptions, audiobooks, and the like. The X3 didn't support such low bitrate files, so James and Joe said they'd add in that functionality in an upcoming firmware update.

Actually it is my understanding that both 32kbps and 32bit files are supported now :D

Same here, still waiting for a pre-order in the UK... just "trying" to wait quietly.

Following the advice of someone on this thread, I ordered from Head-Direct yesterday and they tell me it's shipping out today. I never expected to order my X5 from them. I think I'll have it sometime early next week. I hope everyone who ordered gets theirs soon. I know Fiio is pumping them out as fast as possible.

About the second issue - I believe James or Joe commented earlier that the folder.jpg does not automatically associate with the files and is still not implemented in the X5 software, but they are planning to do it in further firmware updates. If I am wrong, they are welcome to correct me. I personally haven't had any problems with songs skipping before they actually reach their end or without input by the user(i.e. me pressing the skip forward button).

note that the following applies to a beta firmware

I am actually struggling to use the player at all because 50% of the time a song will skip within 2 seconds while trying to load the ~500x500 cover art. (64GB Class 10 card, 16/44 FLACs, v1.22 beta firmware)
I will have to remove all my embedded art and try again.
Surely someone else is having the same?

OTG doesn't work at all either, it just says 'no music found' when shown a powered external HDD with 800GB of 16/44 FLAC on it (which in no place will exceed the stated 2000 tree steps or 256 chars filepaths). Leaving me with just the jumpy FLACs with embedded art today :)

Arrgh, I should cancel my MP4Nation order.  1.5 pre-order.

Despite my huge reservations over the file limit problem (which now seems like it possibly could be fixed?) and associated shuffling issues, I’m still keeping my eye on this thread for developments – as I’ve always said, the X5 otherwise seems to be a fantastic bit of kit at its price point.

Anyway, several people have mentioned that the X5 veers towards being quite bright/trebly or, at least, less warm sounding than the X3. Although typically I’m one that prefers source neutrality and to let the ‘phones do the work, I’m not totally adverse to a bit of EQ tweaking if it’s just making a minor (subjective) correction.

So my question as a basshead is – presumably the EQ is good enough/customisable enough to boom up the bass without having too much of an affect (effect?) on anything else?

about the build in EQ , just talk with our engineer, a solution as below:

all the EQ mode can be customed in the new firmware. it means you can change the EQ setting and them save it to what every you need for rock, classic ...

will it a better solution ?
