I'm pretty sure I read somewhere James did mentioned the UI and buttons are completely redesigned and will be muh improved upon X3.  Hope to get more info soon with the X3 launch pretty much completed now.

If a rough answer is fine, I'd say it's easy enough to guess from the updated first post.  However that's the earliest possible scenario, so giving it another few months for international release is a fair estimate for now.  That's how the X3 is going so far.

So the X5, maybe say spring 2014 in US, but that's still an early guess.  Seems they need to settle the X3 production, distribution and bug fixing first.  I think all of this process for the X3 will serve as a good preparation and know-how gathering for the X5 too.

So, James, are you now saying that it's 'OK to have non-swappable battery in X3 / X5 because we can just charge it using a powerbank battery', but we cannot listen to it whilst it is charging...Do I have to stop listening when battery runs flat, and wait an hour or two for powerbank to charge the DAP in my pocket, before I can listen again?

.

sure you can. but it will be more hot than just listening or charging only.

Thankyou for the answer.

Seems like using a powerbank whilst listening with an X5 in my pocket is not going to be a good idea, then.

lol, maybe but you will get real feedback from other users when our X3 hit the market soon. for example, we just declare that the battery life of X3 is 10 hours, but most of the user report to us it is 12 hours and some even

report to us it is more than 17 hours, you can check the link but it is in chinese. http://www.fiio.pw/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=498&highlight=%E7%BB%AD%E8%88%AA

another issue is , since we have more and more models , and I have spent more time in the management of our company so I can track all the thread and hard to find someone are @ me , so the best way to ask me any question will be in our subforum on head-fi. http://www.head-fi.org/f/180/fiio   anyway, I enjoy the time on head-fi and discussing with all head-fi'er.

I may be wrong, but I think it's a bit too early to ask that...

Well, yes, but James did exclaim he'd run naked through the streets if the X5 wasn't released by October.

Perhaps he was referring to review samples for Asian markets.

I can def see how it is a difficult question but it would be nice to know even if its not spot on for those of us that have to really plan our purchases because of our budgets

Yes, it's my situation exactly. Of course, I'm also curious about the performance of the X5 compared to the X3.

I wish I found this thread later on so I don't have to start the wait game so early before its released.  If this is under 10mm in depth, I am in heaven and I'm sure fiio will have a very profitable product. The dac microchip is a 24bit version of what you find on the asus essence one! It has x8 oversampling digital filter. Chip wise I would put it above wm8710 (found in ak100, x3, dx50), cs4398 (colorfly c4). And below es9018 (dx100).

Well, it seems I need to read more carefully: the first post of this thread specifies that the engineering sample is expected to be ready by October. I do hope the X5 will be widely available in the U.S. before July 2014!

Thanks,
Brian
