You would've ordered from mp4nation as they include bwavz S1 for free ,fedex for faster delivery any corner and 5% discount!

It's way more convenient for me to buy things locally due to the stupid people in the customs. They've got a freebie also but not the S1, it's EP730 of Harman Kardon. It's kinda useless though as they fit terrible in my ears. :/

Yesterday I asked HDPHNS in the Netherlands out their pre-order status.
They mailed me that they will ship their first back of X5's next week, so they are still on schedule for a late March delivery.

I decided to wait a bit longer and preordered at MP4NATION today. Their website now states "PREORDER 2 (EARLY APRIL)". I assume they have ran out of their first pre-order batch?

I chose MP4NATION because the price, after 5% discount, and including all import taxes etc. is around 327 Euro, which is lower than the regular price of 349 Euro at HDPHNS. And there’s a small chance that I don’t have to pay any import tax. And I get a set of free ear-buds as bonus.

I currently use a RockBox-ed Clip+ and Yamaha EPH-100 ear buds. The CLip+ sound snice, but has it's weakness.
- High-res music is poorly down sampled which clearly worsens the sound quality. It sounds worse than 44.1 Khz FLAC’s.
- Sometime treble is distorted (cracking noises)
- FLAC- files are sometimes skipped to the next song a few seconds playing starts
- Left and right sound output is lost / scrambled and I have to restart the Clip+
- I need more memory. 64GB is not sufficient and I don’t like to swap micro-SD cards.

An X3+128GB or DX50+128GB is an option but this is in the same price range as the X5, and the opinion is that the X5 is the better DAP.

The waiting has started . . .

That's what they told me as well. Have you thought about the extra costs and warranty when you need to rely on service in case your X5 is broken? The price is EUR 349 shipment included (not EUR 359) so I wonder if that would make up for the EUR 10 you'll save initially. By the way, HDPHNS is a great company with with very helpfull people.

Is there anyone can compare x5 with ak100?

I did an A-B with SE846. Both have excellent control and technicalities, but X5 is more transparent, less congested, more natural sounding and it has a wider soundstage. X5 is clearly better in SQ. But I have not tested any fullsize can though.

Anybody knows a good place to order to Canada? I'm thinking about mp4nation for the freebies, but duties worry me a bit... Thanks!

Edit: well I think it's gonna be mp4nation anyway :)

Headfoneshop or headphonebar, depending on which end of the country you're in.Shop for the east, Bar for the west. I usually get items 2 days after ordering from HB. Why pay USD when you can pay CAD?

can someone explain the benefits of pairing the x5 with the E12? Im debating whether or not i should order the E12 with the x5 on MP4Nation. I currently have Beyerdynamic DT770 250Ohm headphones but i plan on upgrading maybe to the DT880 600ohm. I think 880s would need the extra amping right? Im kinda new to all this high end portable audio stuff.

With my DT770 Pro:s i can hear the X5:s internal amplifier straining even on high gain at normal listening levels. But when i hook up my E12 i can't hear that at all (at least on low gain). If you are considering using the DT:s with the X5 i would recommend getting the E12 as well, especially with the 600Ω DT880 or spring for something more expensive amplifier wise.

Many reasons
  • More Power if their headphones need it
  • Some may prefer E12's sonic section
  • Analog Bass Boost (some may not want the digital)
  • Analog Potentiometer
  • More refined sonic section

I've only heard DT770 80 ohm and that was powered well with the E17 I had at the time. I wouldn't think the 250 Ohm based off what I have heard on it is extremely hard to drive, or anything the X5 can't do but hey, if someone thinks otherwise with direct exp, let me know.

Ask or search through big E12 threads for people that own the 600 ohm beyers and read about what they said about amping the E12 with them. Or look through this thread and the x5 preview tour thread to find out what those with the 600 ohm beyers say about the X5+600 ohm beyer

For a start - unless you actually own an OTL Tube amp, or are planning on getting one - don't get the 600 ohm DT880s - there is no point.  The 250 ohm will be more versatile, and they sound practically the same (yes I've owned both, and yes I got the chance to compare side-by-side).

Second - no, IMO the amplifier section on the X5 copes admirably well with the 250 ohm DT880 - no signs of under-amplification at all.  When I had the trial X5 - I spent a large part of the time paired with the DT880, and also performed volume matched comparisons with my desktop NFB-12.  You don't need extra amping - unless you were planning on trying to drive something insanely power demanding like an HE6.  The whole point of the X5 is that it's a one-stop stand alone device.
