Nice, that's pretty reasonable actually, less than 1 dollar per GB I can do!

Great, I ordered one. I wonder when they will ship. Thanks for the heads-up, head-hi.

What is a decent DAP to drive IEMs, don't really care about the size must be usable UI.
X5 the best out there? Or something else.

For the price I think the X5 may be one of the best available. But check out others from iBasso or Astell & Kern if your interested in others. A&K has better interface but much more expensive.

  Hi ClieOS

How does Re400b with HM700 compare to X5 with Re400?

Thanks.

I do not own HM 700 but own re-400, and I can say it is worth every penny, It is one of the best P/P iem I have ever known. The combo HM700-RE400B which about 250 usd is quite good. But in my opinion is depend on will you want to upgrade your IEM nad DAP because RE400 still good but you may want to update to BA Driver IEM in future. And remember that HM700 will not work well with BA Driver IEM but only Dynamic like RE400, GR-07 ...
So it is depend on you, and what you want to do in the future or the present!

I think the UI on a DX50/DX90 is likely to be a lot better than on the X5, based on my experiences with the DX50, X3 and what I've read about the interfaces here and on Headfonia.

And you'd be hard-pressed to find a difference in sound quality in a blind test between these various players.

Thanks for the reply. The reason I ask is because Hifiman just released a new HM700/earbud combo (earbud like PK1 not IEM), the earbud is also driven balanced like Re400b. I'm thinking if Hifiman release a normal version of the earbud, will the improvement in sound with a better player like X5 be offset by the balanced design of HM700?

I concur, mostly. You can still use BA based IEM, but it has to be balanced or else it might not work well with HM700.

Personally I think X5 is already a class above the HM700 (even with balanced in mind). It might make more sense to compare X3 to HM700. If it were X5 vs. HM700, I'll pick X5 everytime regardless of the balanced headphone amp section.

I have a couple of words to say: FiiO X5 / ER4S.

Have you tried it ClieOS? I think it sounds pretty neat. :)
