The Fiio X5 Thread

has anyone tested the quality of the coax out on the x5?

It's a digital out. It works. What do you mean by quality?

For the record - I did test it, and it worked fine. No signs of noise or drop-outs. It was in my review.

Jitter and other sq factors. Considering the x5 as a transport for the hugo that's all xp

I will do so when I get the Hugo... I like how the X5 has two card slots, albeit it is heavier than the DX50.. when I go light, I will use the HM901 instead, dont think I can accept anything lesser now

Can you remind me of your thoughts comparing the x5 and balanced 901? I can't seem to find them in your posts.

I now use minibox bcos single ended makes it easier to switch btw the two in office, sound is close n not lesser than bal card.
X5 is great but hm901 is still a couple of notches above in musicality. Sometimes X5 can sound harsh with the wrong pairing but 901 always sound musical even for older recordings..for well recorded classical music, sq is close but the note is still richer with hm901.. X5 is nor doing anything wrong but hm901 does more thinga right.
Sorry i think AnakChan and Mim can put this better in words..

Thx cosmic

I personally found the balanced 901 with the nt6 pros sounded rather congested/compact in the soundstage, other than that my memory on its sound is rather hazy xp

That's interesting. Trying through my headphones stable with the X5, the NT6pro was the standout as my best pairing. The 901 vs. x5 comparisons that I have heard so far is that the x5 is very close in character but just a notch below. So there must be some difference that makes the 901 not pair well with the NT6pro.

Since I will mainly be using the NT6pro, and the 901 has the SQ to beat, it sounds as if the x5 is the better choice for me. It also helps that it is a third of the price or a quarter if including the required balanced cables.

Hey guys, first post here but been lurking for ages.
Just wanted to see what you make of this: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Fiio-x5-top-hd-hifi-player-mp3/1652618772.html
It's an apparent sale on X5s, where they're available for $15/€10! I'm guessing it's a scam right??

Hmm, not sure why it's not showing up when I click the link from here. Anyyway, if you go to aliexpress and search for a FiiO x5 one seller shows up as 97% off. But yeah, I'm sure it is too good to be true anyway. Just thought I'd check it out anyway!

I am only 1000000000% sure it is a scam based on ali's policies. It is rampant see below.

Buy from authorize dealers. Warranty is worth the extra cost I assure you at least for a new product line.
