The Fiio X5 Thread

Some news about the X5 (yes, *this* X5, not the X5 2nd gen):

We have made a major upgrade to the Windows DAC drivers--from the ancient v1.61 to the shiniest latest v3.34! Thank you Thesycon for working with us to work out the licensing plan for their latest and greatest! :D

The improvements are too many to list right now (but we'd do our best to list them all anyway in the coming official announcement :p )--right now you may just download it and see for yourself. One major point that should be obvious to any Windows 8 and 10 user--it comes with a brand-spanking new fully working Windows signature certificate! Hallelujah

NICE! I just re-installed Windows 10 and it's great I don't have to disable drivers again. I blame M$ for all this.

Great--you're installing this now on Win10? Let me know if any warning dialogs still come up. Apparently Win10 is so touchy about secure source of executables that putting them in some zip file can break security checks. I *think* we're safe the way it is now, but I'm not sure :/

Is it weird that I had a dream about this? Huge deja vu.
I'm currently running my setup through the FiiO X5 with the new DAC drivers. It's all operational, well done. :D

nice! almost makes me want to go back from my X7

one tip on windows: right click the zip file, or the extracted zip file, go to properties, and see if at the bottom it says "unblock", check this.

here is an image of it, which i found on the internet (it's pretty much the same for windows vista/7/8/8.1/10

First of all thanks for that update!

But I'm trying to install this one Windows 7 and no go..after the setup is finished it won't detect my X5. When it asks to unplug and replug the device to complete the installation, At the bottom it says Installing FiiO x5 drivers..then 1 second later it says failed to install. Had to go back to old one. :frowning2: Anyone know what the problem could be?

Have you change the setting on x5 as "dac" function not as storage?

Yes it was already plugged in on DAC mode when I was installing the drivers.

Sorry, just read your post before last one. You said you back to old one that means you already have installed old version, right?
Before you install a new driver, you should Uninstall the old one first (as mentioned in read me.txt file).
Hope it will work.

Yes I realized that the 2nd time. The first time I was installing it while the old one was still installed. Then I figured maybe its not detecting because I already have the old one..but even after doing that step it wouldn't pick up at the end where it asks to disconnect and replug. Just fails to install on the final step.
Have you tried reconnecting it as storage? Then connect it as a DAC when the drivers recognize a connected X5

Nope. I'll go ahead and try that right now and see what happens.

Hi

I had the same problem with the old 1.61.0 DAC drivers. An error message would come up at the end of the installation process. The following method worked every time for me.

Try deleting the drivers, restart the computer and re-install the drivers with your antivirus disabled. Just turn off your internet connection once you have downloaded the drivers.

There was a thread about this on the Fiio Forum

Regards

Darren
