Clarification about the output power of X3 from one review. http://www.head-fi.org/t/675321/ibasso-dx50-vs-fiio-x3-comparison-thread/75 http://personalaudio.ru/review/portable-audio/

1, The output voltage is 2.9V , the test result is mistake because the reviewer has not set the gain to high in X3.

2, The distortion of X3's line out , you may notice it is very great when it is tested in -3dBFS but it is not so great in 0dBFS. to make it clear,

0dBFS is something like you test your car in full power ( or at the highest speed 200KM/h), -3dBFS means you are driing your car at 150KM/h. the music is change all the time but not an constantly signal ( sine wave signal ). so you the distortion only

will become a little bigger when the music is in the biggest sound level.

As an responsible company, we listed all the detail specification on our website for all our products with the detail test condition, tested by the industry standard instrument. we don't want to lie to our customer with

no load test result , or some meanless specification ( for example , a output level but none kown whether it is  RMS or Peak to Peak output ).

Anyway, don't be cheat by some confusing specification, there are million people in this world who can tested the audio specification.

So I got my X3 a week and a half ago. I like it a lot soundwise but I have noticed that it seems to "hiccup" occasionally on songs (basically I hear the first split second of a song and then it repeats itself and plays normally). It seems to only be on a couple albums though, though this could be my imagination. I am still on internal storage as I have not bought a card yet. Anyone experienced this? What can I do? Maybe I just need to update the firmware... (still haven't gotten around to that :p)

I noticed the great result at -3db, and the result a 0db and figured something was wrong with the test or there would have been a lot of reports much earlier. I'm surprised no one that owns one has commented yet.

Most companies offer a fixed level line output on their DAC because it can bypass the subsequent buffer/gain stage and volume knob needed for the headphone output (especially the analog volume), therefore improving the S/N and L/R crosstalk. The line output is designed for high impedance input on an amp (typically 10-50kOhms) so it doesn't have enough power to drive any headphones.

X3 is an unusual case where the headphone output (in Low Gain setting) set up to maximum volume (60) achieves almost identical performance to the line output, when connected to a high impedance amp, so I don't see much benefit of using the line output.

The only time a problem occurs is when you use the High Gain setting on the headphone out, in which case the signal starts distorting around Volume 54. As long as you don't max out the volume in High Gain setting, the sound quality of X3 should be very similar regardless of whether you use line out or headphone out to hook up to the amp.

Any idiot (including myself) can plot the distortion graph, but you really need to choose the appropriate loading based on the intended application. It's silly to test at max volume for typical low impedance headphone loads, because it is unrealistic. For max volume tests I might use say 10k ohms for the worst case line output scenario to use X3 as a fixed output DAC to connect to a preamp etc.

My graph from few months back shows no real issues with the X3 for line out scenario. The only concern was if you somehow used the headphone output set to High Gain and max volume. Then again this is pretty unrealistic. (why would you do that if you have a perfectly fine line output connector).

Fino would need to support exfat for that to work. I don't think there are plans for this.

exFat would really be nice, because then I can simply chuck in a microSD natively formatted on an Android phone. I can then swap and choose the cards whenever I feel like it.
exFat is the standard recommended format type for SDXC, so I don't know why most of the DAP makers do not support it. It must be difficult to handle it on the simple DAP OS.

Microsoft charge a stiff fee for the use of exFat...

Hmmm. Thinking about it, does the X3 support any of the Linux formats? Probably not useful for the majority of people, but it would be useful for me, and may be worth it for people needing to put larger than 4GB files on there. Definitely not essential though.

why yes, it does. its called fat32 :p

Ah I get where you're coming from. There's ntfs.... Don't think that option is too preferable though.

Does the X3 support NTFS on 64GB cards? That would work for me (All my Macs have Tuxera NTFS installed, and Linux is generally happy with NTFS) and probably all Windows users. The main reason I specified Linux was because I thought the X3 firmware was Linux and therefore probably could handle these formats already. TBH, to me it's academic since I won't be getting any 4GB files, but someone had such a file earlier in the discussion.

X3 only supports FAT32. It runs it's own embedded software. I dunno where that guy got dsd iso from, but I'd love to have some multichannel dsd audio that I actually enjoyed listening to.
