The Fiio X3 Thread.

I've updated the firmware on my X3 from 1.23EN to 1.25EN with a 64GB microSD filled with music. Yeah, I'm mad. :D

I'm sure you can use a smaller card as well.

P.S. I ran into the dreaded "lock up after sleep" issue, trying to decide whether to upgrade firmware before leaving on vacation. If I decide to upgrade can you use any size microSD so long as it is <= 32GB?

Using an old 1GB micro SD, worked perfectly.

Speaking of microSDs, my order from deal extreme just came in. A micro SD USB3.0 card reader.

I'll test it tomorrow, if it works i'll link it for the people who also use a 64GB card filled with music :D

EDIT:

As impatient as i am, i just tested it.
After it got recognised, it works perfectly.
I am now copying all the files from my 64GB sandisk microSDXC card at 41MB/s to my harddrive.

That's 11MB faster than SanDisk says their card should work.

Note: i don't receive any money or free stuff from DX or their partners for this.
I just want to help :)

sorry for the delay, I am in Beijing now and it is AM 2:43 so it is quite late so there are some quick replies.

1, for the battery fall apart, we found there are very very few X3 will have problem. it is not necessary to worry about that. we sold out 2K X3 before we sold to over sea market. so almost all the design/manufacture problem

    were fixed before mass production.

2, about the dust, it is the same as above, BTW, we improve the build quality from 3st batch, it is not a common situation.

We have sold out 10,000 pcs x3 and I think there should have more than 8,000 user are using X3 right now. even we can control the defective rate down to 1% , there will have quite some users reported some quality issues

about X3, that is the situation.

Also, for anyone have battery issue, for example, our user can fix the problem by our user  if he has enough skill and don't need to worry about the warranty. but of course, the best way is send back the RMA and get a replacement. and is what we suggest our customer buy from a local dealer.

James, if my unit is among the 1st batch and I have problems with dust entering inside the screen will I be able to get a replacement with the newer fixed batch?

One question - what on earth is the secret to get cover files to show up on the screen?  In one instance it works but not others and I cannot see why.  One other small point - would you recommend using the X3 with the E12?

I embed the album cover files as 400x400 JPG images using iTunes. I simply select the entire album and drag & drop the image file into [Get Info > Artwork] section. It shows up 100% fine on my X3.

If you are not sure about the nature of the existing album covers on your music files then it might pay to remove them first and re-embed using a consistent method. (if you can be bothered).

I've a question: wouldn't continuous scrolling be more effective than bouncing text?

I know James isn't much around at this moment, so i'd like to know your opinions on this, before i bother him with this.

Hi All,

I just joined head fi, but have been following the forum for awhile now. I was wondering if the x3 will sound significantly better than my S4? I am using turbine pro coppers. I will also be getting the v moda M100s in the next couple of months. Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks in advance!

I think you should try the x3 demo unit first if it is available in your country.

I remember someone saying X3 is not very good with M100 but it is matter of personal preferences after all, maybe you might like it who knows (I personally hate M100, horrible sounding cans). I can't say much for full sized cans but for iems GR07 and GR07 BE seem to be perfect match.

Hi, I have encountered a problem with gapless playback. I ripped the album "Irreligious by Moonspell" using a correctly set-up Exact Audio Copy (with pre-gaps detected in the individual tracks) into a "FLAC+cue" image and using Foobar I converted this into separate tracks. Between the first and second song, this album contains a crossfade-like transition, which should be fixed by the Gapless function. Unfortunately, it is able to play it correctly only in the image+cuesheet form. When playing the separate tracks, there is a noticeable gap which should not be there.
Can this flaw be fixed by upgrading the firmware?

I using an X3 with an E12 to drive my Beyerdynamic DT880 600Ohm. Sounds great, so far. Currently listening to Daylight Again by Crosby, Stills & Nash 24/96 Flac version.
