Yeah E-ink would be amazing
Agreed! Since this is for music and not videos, apps, etc. it would be perfect. Awesome battery life and better view of the screen in bright daylight.

All I'm waiting for is some news on the battery life when playing lossless files at a decent volume (75% of max or thereabouts). Battery life is important to somebody who is constantly on the go - I felt tethered to power sources when I was using the ipod 5.5, which made it feel like a ball and chain. I don't think I'll make the switch if I can expect the same situation...and say what you will about Cowon with their BBE, UI, etc..., but I have drained the battery of my J3 3 times in the 5 months that I've owned it. With the ipod 5.5, it was every 2 days like clockwork. For this head-fier, willfully inviting that same hassle into my life again would be like going back to Shawshank.

Isn't 75% a bit loud? On my Studio V I go up to volume 6 out of 31 and consider that loud. On the DX100 maybe around 145 to 150. I think 300 is max for it.

Depends on impedance - I listen at 30/40 out of my J3 with GR07s at 50 Ohms and it's fine for me. With my Quads, 23/40 (easier to drive + better seal)

With the RE262 which are 150 Ohms I went up to volume 12 on my Studio V and around 170 on my DX100.

I'm guessing we have different preferences. What is the maximum setting for each dap?

The Studio V goes up to 31. The DX100 goes up to 300. When I use to use my iphone4 I'd go a bit under half. Maybe 38 percent volume. Depending on my mood I'll listen as low as volume 1 on the Studio V.

Your ears are probably in better shape than mine; I went to a lot of loud concerts when I was young and ignorant...

For what it's worth when I do go to loud events I do take some form of ear protection now as I'm in pain the entire time if not. Can feel my ears constantly crackling....

erm, this _IS_ Head-Fi, ppl don't visit the DIY forums just to look at pretty pictures..... they actually buy soldering irons, wire, sleeving, plugs, and.. oh jeez, I could have just said you hit the nail on the head! Doesn't everybody eventually custom cable their headphones (or at least go buy one if they shy away from hot soldering irons?) LOLOL.
You all know your gonna custom cable your headphones anyway,...why complain?

I guess you're right, E-Ink would probably alienate a lot of casual folks. And we need them, for the more money they pay the more resources FiiO'll have to polish this thing
Besides, changing the display might cause another delay in production, which is the last thing we all want, I imagine.
E-ink would be a nice idea! But i doubt it will get as much sales as colored screened mp3 players lol. They want to cater to both audiophiles and casuals.

I'm wondering, are there plans to make this thing directly dockable in E9? That would be pretty cool.

I custom cable my hp's as well,...so I'm just as guilty.
