Yes...just curious. We already have a 1A/1Z thread.

Have you posted in that thread recently?
We have a new thread to share the joy. The old thread was great; I’m not totally sure why it was closed? Hopefully we can have a nice thread?

It is too hard to read / search useful content from the 3000 pages mega thread anyway, would be nice to have some FAQ or quick links to useful information in the first page to reduce threads of repeating questions, making the thread more readable, my first suggestion,

Adding the quick link to the custom firmware thread,
https://www.head-fi.org/threads/sony-walkman-os-fw-mods-non-android.943661/

Reason to do so : The FW mod from MrWalkman unlocked the native DSD playback capability on 3.5mm single end output, and the DSEE AI which was exclusive feature on DMP-Z1, both are capabilities on hardware design but disabled/hidden intentionally by Sony, I would say it is fair to let people to be aware of the true potential of their machines, whether to "jailbreak" or not is up to individuals' decision, though.

For many that stumble upon this thread there will be a trend to keep up to date. There is something about Head-Fi which is obviously time sensitive. We all want the latest updates, the latest ideas. With that said though the old thread was and still is an amazing resource.

https://www.head-fi.org/threads/sony-nw-wm1z-wm1a.815841/

The above can be read as someone recommending the old thread. I am recommending what the old thread has! There is a big chance this new thread will never come close to all we had. But let’s simply look at it as a continuation or sorts. Plus this is all we have.

The past Walkman IS THE thread that I’ve posted the most in. It had a great community feel. And just like regular “real-life” community interactions, we can always hope this new thread will be a continuation? If the thread does it’s job it serves to show new and old users about the slightly hidden romance of the players. Of course we can all write small paragraphs about sound interpretation, yet there are also tips and tricks which when learned, to take the Sony Walkman experience to the next level.

The fact is the players are many things to many people. And they are both easy to use as well as a little complicated at times. For some they will be all they ever need. For many they will also blossom-out in value. For many listening to audio was simply from a computer. When you think about it, Walkmans were always tape players meant to go outside. Now it seems the tape players actually became computers?

Yet for many of us we realized that these small hand-held devices offered a unique lifestyle. I’m not going to date myself, but I’ve had my share of tapes eaten by the players (ancient Walkmans). The tapes could even be salvaged and repaired with minimal damage to the tape itself. It took cellophane tape and a pair of scissors to get things going again. The novelty was learning what part of the song was on the specific part of the tape that became removed. Often pens or pencils were used to rewind the tape. Even a small section of the tape could be wrinkled and have a small amount of audio-fall-out which somehow didn’t seem to matter as we were grateful to have a working cassette tape again. What does all this have to do with the 1A/1Z thread? I have no clue? Except stuff can be salvaged and brought back into working order.

Those tapes were never the same, though they stayed as valuable items. Also our audio memory became influenced to the point of remembering when songs continued on side B. The fact that due to the tape surgery.....some songs were permanently changed and then re-remembered again in an edited fashion.

Life goes on......

Keep it going. Doesn’t mean we can’t start anew. Glad it’s back. Gonna see how these new audio changes stack up after I instal the new FW. Can’t believe all that sound in a pocket rocket.
