Ahhh, beautiful! I have a silver MKIV R32. It has about 82K on the clock, and I'm anxiously waiting for info on the forthcoming Golf R20.

Enjoy the new R!

MkIV was without a doubt the better looking car...

I'm curious to see how well the R20 turns out, half the reason for getting this car is the sound of the VR6! But you can do so much with that 2.0T engine.

Right, you can make additional power much cheaper. For instance, with the V6, it takes around $4,500 (last I saw) to start with the entry level VF Engineering supercharger kit. Turbo kits are begin around more like 8K.

Another benefit to the R20's 4 cyl engine will be less weight over the front end. That'll make for a more agile car, with quicker turn in. But you're right about the exhaust note! I love that every day on my drives to work. I'd miss it.....

to each his own. i prefer the look of the mkV over the mkIV. i recently sold my mkV GTI but when i was searching for it, i had a hard time deciding between the R32 vs the GTI. in the end, the GTI made more sense to me as it was going to be a commuter car. it got better gas mileage and is not that much slower than the R32. the R32 does look much better however.

Man my firefox really has a knack of crashing whenever I write a post longer than 3 sentences...

Anyway, in my impatience to rewrite the whole things here's the cliff notes:

Nice choice on the VW. I really miss my '95 Jetta VR6. The Jetta had great sound with only an aftermarket intake. Sounded sorta like a subdued ferrari (jetta vs ferrari sound), but lacked performance and got whooped by the Saab 2.0 turbo engine in multiple tests, even 2nd and 3rd gear rolling starts where no skill was involved. However top gear acceleration was second to none (in the realm of mediocre mainstream cars). Understeer was horrendous and clutch got weaker after hard driving. Nonetheless, the car was a pleasure to drive on the freeway due to the amazing top gear acceleration and responsiveness.

Luckily I found the light and decided that motorcycles were far more economical and fast if you're willing to put a rocket between your legs.

Anyhoo, here's my 600cc bebe...

Congrats. My sister and her fiance just pulled the trigger on an R36 Passat wagon in the same blue color. Can't wait to drive it!

This thread shouldn't die, whats going on with everyone's cars?

My Saab is getting 34lb injectors as well as a remapped LH EPROM so that it actually realizes it isn't running stock injectors and thus will be remapped to an appropriate duty cycle.
