The Beyerdynamic Tesla DT 1350 Impressions thread

Guys, the cups are the same size on both. The only difference is the headband padding and the paint job on the cups. In fact, you can remove the outer shell off of the cups of the original versions and walla, you have a Facelift version. These two headphones, for all intents and purposes, are identical. I wouldn't worry one bit about whether you get the Facelift version or not.

EDIT: There is also no difference in how they sound.

Actually I think they changed the ear pads prior to the Facelift version coming out. My "original" DT1350, purchased way back in July, has the new "larger" pads whereas the original photos of the DT1350, like the one I posted earlier, show it with smaller pads. Those look nothing like the pads that came on mine. The pads I got look identical to the ones shown on the Facelift version. So I stand by what I said-- the difference is a slightly different paint job on the cups (which can be accomplished with the original version by removed the caps) and slightly improved headband padding. I doubt there is a single person in the world that would like one of these headphones and not like the other. For all intents and purposed they are the same headphone. If you're particularly interested in the look of one versus the other, get that one. Or if you're particularly worried about headband comfort get the Facelift. Otherwise get the one you can find the cheapest price on.

Hi all, I have had my DT 1300's now for about two months, they sound good but are a complete disappointment as a package.

PRO's:
Sound very good

CON's: Uncomfortable, the clamp pressure required to isolate. After about an hour I am over them.

Hair gets caught in them and my hair is about 4mm long!

No chance of changing the cable it should have a short cable or a jack in the headphone unit.

The male headphone connect has a screw in male thread showing about 5mm of thread when plugged into a source with 3.5mm
socket. So when plugged into say a portable source it looks kinda agricultural. They could not even supply a screw in blank to fix
The option of changing the cable out is not an option as mentioned before.

The cap on one of the cans has come off and the double sided tape does not work any more.

The placement of the cans on the ears is critical for good sound especially bass, not a deal breaker but.......

The sound is good but does not compensate for all the other practical issues with these cans. How can they be considered great headphones
confused_face_2.gif
All these things combined.... I am out looking for some headphones without all these issues

So you've never actually compared yours to the new version and just assuming you have the same pads since pictures look the same? I guess it's possible but I've never heard anyone mention that with their older 1350, have you?

No I haven't I'm just going off of pictures and the fact that Beyer seems to have changed part number EDT 1350 SL to the new, larger pads that come with the Facelift and that is the part number that also comes with the original version. They seem to have updated those particular pads, rather than replacing them with a new part number, and more recent "original" 1350's are coming with the new pads. I could be wrong but if you look at the early photos of the 1350 you'll notice its pads look small like the T50p pads while the ones that came on mine and the ones in most of the recent photos online appear to be the larger pads. Its hard to now for sure so if you want to play it safe just get the Facelift. I just wanted to make it clear that the Facelift version isn't a whole new headphone and its not meant to be. Sound quality is identical between the two and the other differences are pretty minimal in the grand scheme of things. Its harder to find a good price on the Facelift version right now so if you find a great deal on the original I wouldn't shy away from it. But to each his own.

It all varies.  I have none of the issues that you've described above.  Comfort was an issue at first, but now I can wear them for hours straight without a problem.

These bad boys came in from Amazon today. First impressions: they're great! Love the detail in the mids and highs and the formidable bass. Definitely a great value for the price! I'm also pretty sure I got the facelift, but I'm posting a picture for you guys to double check.

They look and feel great. They do clamp pretty well, but the isolation (both for you as a listener and for those around you) seems incredible for an on-ear. I would rather have a bit of clamping and good isolation than a lighter fit without isolation.

Congrats! Glad you like them! The clamping force and the fit, while causing comfort issues for some, does indeed provide a remarkable amount of isolation.

You didn't get the Facelift, that is the original version. But its a good photo and does a good job of showing what I was talking about previously, that the "original" DT1350 seems to be coming with larger pads than it originally came with and that they *appear* to be identical to the improved pads that come with the Facelift.

EDIT: Wait a minute! That appears to be the original version with not only the newer pads but the newer headband as well. So yes, aside from the silver Beyerdynamic logo and the texture on the cups, you have a Facelift version there.

Could it be that the coiled-cable version is the only one that comes with the updated color scheme on the cups? I heard someone say that at some point but I didn't know if it was true and based on Beyer's product photos they both have the new color scheme.

yeah that seems to be the case. the only way you can determine if the straight cable version is the facelift is to open the box and look at the headband. If it's covered in black (you can't see the metal in the headband) then it's the facelift version.

honestly though, the coiled version is better. The coil is really thin. The diameter is 1/2 of the diameter of the coils on the ATH-M50. The coils are light so they don't stretch with just gravity. Also the length of the coiled version is the same as the straight version but you can stretch the coiled to 3m.

For people who think the clamping of this headphone is a little too much to bear:

If you leave the headphone clamped to something that's about an inch thicker than the width of your head overnight, you've bought yourself a day of headache-free listening. Works for me at least. I use a desktop speaker of mine for this purpose

Just though I would update on this. I still have design issues with some of the outlined.........But I went to a local headphone specialist shop to buy a new set of cans to replace my beyer 1350's.
I had shortlisted two replacements for audition: Kef M500 and Aiaiai young guru's.I took along my Astell&Kern 100 as a source I am familiar with. I wanted so much to like the Kefs but sat down for an hour in the shop with the kef's and Aiaiai's. You know those musical transitions that send shivers like Flume/what you need 2:08. With the kefs it was not there, simply underwhelming, really disappointing. It was there with the Guru's mostly. In the end I realised how good my 1350's were. So walked away without buying new phones, but happy that the sound of my cans were awesome.
Visited a friend on the way home who has a 13 yo daughter (long hair) who wanted to listen to my Cans. She sat on the sofa head back eyes closed and was enjoying. Then I heard "can you help me my hair is caught" If she was not a smart kid she may not have held the phones steady when she was getting in trouble rather than ending up with a "rats nest" by struggling. Anyway we carefully extracted her, without the need to cut of any hair. I am shaving my head rather than get new phones. But the cable issues and hair entanglement still remain. Poor show by BeyerD on the grounds of really bad Industrial design. But the other phones did not come close to the sound nuance of my BeyerD's for me

Just thought I would share

Cheers and merry Christmas

I'm far from the best reviewer, for I lack the poetry.  And my ears are not the best, for reviewers hear things that I often don't hear.  So take what I say with a grain of salt...

I'm very comfortable in saying the opening of soundstage, because it was noticed easily.  Even though I was without my DT1350s for about 3 weeks.  That's what makes this kind of comparison difficult for me.

My "opinion" on bass is I think I'm hearing a slight shift from sub-bass emphasis towards mid-bass emphasis.  Now I think this is a logical change because the stock cable is copper, and the new cable is silver plated copper.  But again this is based on a 3 week separation in listening time.  That's also why I want to plug those 2 holes from the old cable.  Because I would expect the bass shift to be even more noticed...

Please take some pictures and upload them, Punit I'd love to see your cable mod too when it's finished. Any word on the re-cable pricing?

Mine was $126, and my only difference was getting a mini 4 pin XLR termination, for balanced listening.

As soon as I find my camera battery charger

I take a pic or two to share...
