Yeah, I had a Fiio AMP. back then
that must be the reason.
 
Now i'm using the Leckerton-Audio AMP.
 
Still, according to the graphs at Innerfidelity, the Q701 seem to have a flatter bass curve,
and seriously much less upper-mids dip (at ~3 Khz).

Hm, good point. Then no need to buy. Although, it seems like it'd be a good novelty set of cans and good for gaming/movies.

From an exclusivity standpoint the K7XX, it's limited edition and a small number of runs in each wave. SQ wise, well it's not out yet to come to a solid conclusion yet!

Just wondering why people keep mentioning k712 production moved to China/PRC - AKG marketed these as "hand crafted in Austria". I bought a pair of k712 just last week and it does say made in Austria on both box and the phones.

I live in Japan. I have massdropped three items so far from Mass drop. Every now and then, some items, like lockpicks, can't be shipped out side the USA. 
 
Massdrop is awesome in that it knows I am in Japan and automatically (if it can be shipped to Japan and most items can) calculates the shipping to me. I got the Q701s from massdopp shipped straight to Japan. The international shipping from massdrop is absolutely the cheapest I have ever seen on the internet, and I have imported a fair amount of things here there over the years while living in Japan.

There are still some k712 units on the market that were made in Austria, but current production has been moved to other parts of the world... I purchase the k712 recently and had to make sure they were Austrian made. I will never buy AKG headphones that aren't made in Austria.

My brief tryout of a Q701 gave me the opposite opinion. Its bass was a little too little for my taste (and I am by no means a basshead). To each his own...
