I would probably jump on that Russian HA300 deal if I had a friend there, I like P90 so much that having the same SQ but in a different sound sig in HA300 would be a nice addition to my stable, plus HA300 color scheme is

Yes, I prefer HA300's elegant piano black color scheme to P90SD's grey.
But HA300 is very rare in the states for some reasons......

After spending a week using and burning it in, I posted up a quick review of the HA-P90SD:

Thanks to everyone on this thread for all the valuable information!

^ Nice review, hit the nail on the head. I also just let the P90 play randomly, I'm the type of person that cannot stand anything but a quick UI, thankfully P90 UI is lightning quick even though it is very simple and small scale, it sounds so good that I've never been more happy to just let a dap play randomly.

P90 doesn't have a line out, they chose to have a line in instead of line out, probably just trying to be different as other dap's don't have line in's, line in is up to 2v. The digital out of P90 is much stronger than digital out of Cayin N6, when connected to desktop dac NAD M51 the N6 needs 20% higher volume to be the same level as P90.

Well you could use the headphone out to feed to an external amp, it will work fine, but will be a double amped signal, purists don't like doing it, but there is nothing wrong with doing it.

I wanted to replace a combo iFi iDAC2 + tablet I normally have in use. Will SQ be necessarily poorer (dramatically?) when connected the P90 by its headphone out to a relatively good headphone amp in stationary use ?

Hard to say what the performance will be like, it is a very individual thing, line outs have higher output impedance to deal with the higher input impedance that amps have, so using the headphone out is not ideal, and it is really up to how each individual headphone out design to be able to handle a high impedance amp in. Bottom line is that if you are planning to use an external amp a lot you should probably just get a dap with a line out, or use the P90's digital out to dac then to your amp.

Just for fun I'm going to go test using P90 headphone out connected to an amp, and compare to using a dap with line out, and will report back. I've never actually tried it, only know some of the info around it.
