Newbies and greenpeas to the room...my only advice is step up to the plate and purchase the cans you only dreamt about.
Don't settle for less...the journey will only cost you more scripts!
A happy camper,

I removed the button from my Grado 225's (when I had them) and other than improving the looks of the headphone, soundwise it did absolutely nothing.

These cans kill! The way they separate sound is like a revelation!..Now I gotta listen to all my cds again. The drums, guitars, bass, vocals and other instruments are now all distinct. The music no longer sounds "crowded" together.
I am a happy dude.
I was thinking about removing the buttons since these Grados are easily identified, unlike the lower models in the prestige line.
The only problem I have with these cans and other $100 plus headphones, is that they reveal recording blemishes. Cds that I was perfectly happy with now sound like....uh....

To reiterate, spend your max! Then be happy that you got the most out of your hard earned dollars. Don't make small jumps and hops in quality or expense. Should you save up to get the cans you want? Yes! Step Up to the Plate!
Consider the sound quality of headphones like a de Beers diamond...spend more than you got...you'll be the winner in the end.

You'll regret your words when the time comes to do a source upgrade. I thought like you before

Trust me..when I do a source upgrade, it won't be inexpensive!
Like I said, I will probably spend more than I can handle....then be happy!
The dude I bought my home system was like: 1/3 components, 1/3 speakers(am working on that), 1/3 connects.
I said in another post, if you can't hear it, it ain't worth it! I will probably spend $4-500 on a dedicated cdp. Hey! that's my max!

The gist of this thread is...Spend your max, then be happy! Don't worry about upgrades, cause you can't afford them anyway...Midfi is cool...most of us don't have the ears anyways..
mid fi happy camper,

Right now I'm still second guessing whether I can hear the difference between my pcdp and a $1000 CDP...
