I was looking for the F886 last night, but it's already not available on Amazon. The ZX1 is so expensive though in the UK at £500. I am pining for one though and might give in one day.

In my "local" Sony Centre (Milton Keynes) the player is reduced from £599.99 to £549.99 sat in the display cabinet, but with absolutely no sales promo / literature with it, so sat next to the A15 at a much lower cost, it just looks overpriced, and with no 'extra' (better SQ) purpose...

As much as most marketing is BS, you still need some marketing or else your product just won't sell!!

I think you over estimate most people. Maybe I'm just cynical after working in retail for so long (not anymore thankfully).

I pair them with the Sennheiser IE800 and the SONY MDR-EX1000 on a daily basis. Both sound very unique with this player. It can also drive the Sony Z7 and the Sennheiser HD700.

What hi-Fi have reviewed the Astel and Kern Jr in the latest mag. They like it a lot. Full five stars. (I presume the review will appear online sometime soon.)
 
I wonder if this has something to do with the Sony ZX2 being reduced on Amazon recently to £800. People said to me earlier on in this thread, that new models might reduce the ZX1 price. I hope this is the start of all that.

The ZX1 should power those 2 with no issues. I wouldn't add a FiiO product in the chain. My past experiences with FiiO LOD amps was less than stellar.
