SONY NW-ZX2

Whiles many are saying Sony's memory card are over priced, yes it's only slightly, high speed Micro SDXC sold in japan are also expensive, if you check retailers and main stores, you can check the price, but don't compare them with auctions prices, they tend to be cheaper.

If compared to those sold outside of japan.

And how many people would say "I thought it would be bigger" :D

Here is the hat trick. I will have a representative to come out and announce the fake one to be (replica) and the genuine one to be (high resolution replica.) You would be surprised at how many people would take neither one to be a genuine.

Now, did it explain the magic tricks ? And why people still love magic tricks even with nowadays technologies ?

What do you think this trend of sony, fiio and other brands of Hi-res players not packing headphones?

well for me is fine, they assume you already got a pair of headphones of any kind, and for me is more like they assume you have a hi-res capable can, or HD what ever you call it. Or they do it so if you don't have some HD headphones, go and buy one

But i think would be good to include some basic ones like sony used to with their older walkmen like A800 &X1000 so to have a backup at the office or in the car when you forget your buds

But yes they shall include more accesories!!, f.e a screen protector thingy and a basic silicone case like fiio does, perhaps also a digital output cable

A major reason is probably that if they included earphones, they'd have to be entry level.  The ZX2 will then not sound its best.  A large number of people WILL judge it based on that (maybe assuming that the earphones were "well matched" for the ZX2), and end up regretting their purchase and sending it back.

The main reason why highly priced DAPs don't come with any IEMS = whoever purchased them would already have invested into their own already.

Very true, as it is very unlikely for first time buyers that just happens to run into the ZX2 when they are looking for a DAP.

Hi,

I have a few questions for people already owning the device:

If you go the Japanese model (is it already available outside Japan?), can you change the language to English? I know it is Android, but we are talking about Sony here, and they tend to make there Japanese products Japanese only.

Has anyone tried both the ZX 2 and the DAC-amp PHA-2. I currently use a PHA-2 with an iPhone, but due to storage space mainly, I am looking for a DAP; however I would shell out that amount of cash only if the ZX-2 can replace, and thus sound as good or better, than the PHA-2.

Last question, is the power output enough for not headphones like the Ultrasone Ed 8? I think it might be loud enough (tried, but not with my own music) but I feel I might push the volume close to the max for some of my music: would that decrease the sound quality.

Cheers,
Cedric

Offtopic, but I just bought a cheapo pair of Sony IEMs for use at the gym. They were like 30 bucks at Best Buy. Man, these things blow my JH13 out of the water, it's amazing!

Nah :) The bass is muddy and the mids are quite veiled, kinda distant even. But they are good enough for use at the gym :) But it's nice to sometimes compare all our expensive gear to stuff most people buy out there to see if it's really worth it.

In my experience, you don't know what you are missing till you know what you are missing. Hahha. That has been my audio journey.
As for the ZX2, I am still on the fence, but having own it for week or so only. Let's see, but thus far I feel it is more for Vocal type of music and not bass heavy stuff that I will start to tap my toes irregardless of the thousands of stares from strangers around me. So Anne Bisson does sing to me on the ZX2.

So would you say the ZX2 is mid-centric? Lacking in PRAT? (Pace, Rhythm, Attack, Timing)

Be patient - give it another 7-14 days, and this thread will be flooded with first-impressions, after new owners have reached the obligatory 100hr burn-in, and then had time to sit down and spend some hours listening.

Then you just need to wait another 4-6months until FOTMF has died down and you can start taking the user-feedback seriously
wink.gif

Spot on and then wait a further 10-16 months to purchase the ZX2 at the price it's really worth.

64GB cards in Japan really are bloody expensive, in general we can't really compare Japanese salaries with non-Japanese counterparts

Simply do a search on 値上げ and the prices in Japan are still rising across the board in order to accommodate the ForEx rates
