SONY NW-ZX2

Have a look at ZX2 and ALO CDM combine. :0)

Using MWC-NWH10 to connect and play DSD64 files.

but i am having problem as the DAC is picking it as 44 if i use Onkyo HF player.

If i use the stock player, it is on DAC shows 88 (also not right but at least higher rate).

Saw this on a page earlier.

"Sorry Beemarman, but I was totally mistaken about using the Onkyo app on my Sony!  I just tried it tonight and mine does the same thing as yours.   I read the the info on the app in the Google store, and noticed a comment that said: Note: Audio with a sampling rate exceeding 88.2 kHz output via the headphone connection, AOS connection, digital connections via OTG cable (free version only) is downsampled to 44.1 kHz.  It appears that even though I have the hd version (ie., purchased and unlocked), it is down sampling everything over 88khz to 44.1khz., not to mention the upsampling function for taking 44.1khz and higher up to 192khz is not functional either.  I am using the WMC-NWH10 digital usb cable out of the Sony, BTW.  As you mentioned, I plugged my iphone in and everything worked as expected.  Sorry for the earlier misinformation."

There is a Onkyo player unlocker (at a cost) which should resolve the limitation on the BOLD statement.

But i still cannot get it to do go higher sampling rate.

Any advice on this?

I'm not too sure what the actual problem is as I don't. Use a external DAC, but have you tried Hiby music, I use this on my smartphone, but on the ZX2, the hardware buttons don't work.

I have the Japanese version and USA sony.com version of zx2 here now, listening to "take 5" on max volume with the z7 headphones
plugged straight in, no Pha-3, and the USA version sounds 20% quieter at max vol.
I don't think I would be able to handle most tracks at full volume even without the Pha-3, so
for me personally its a non-issue.

Thanks for your answer first of all. Then has the US version the same volume cap as the eu one? I though the US version was volume cap free!

Ok, I've gotten both players on my ZX2, but somehow I seem to prefer the sound from the default media player with Clearsound on? Am I the only one who thinks this, or is the some setting is the Onkyo/Neutron players I'm missing out on?

Hi everyone,

Apologies if this has already been covered. I have done a thread search but haven't come up with much...

I currently have the ZX1, and am thinking of upgrading to the ZX2.

I am wondering how the internal and external memory is presented to a PC when syncing files? Is the memory presented as a single drive that has a size of the combined internal & external memory or is it two separate drives?

The reason I ask is that I use playlists quite a bit and have found when trying to juggle two drives on the one player (like my X5II) it can be a real pain to make playlists that contain files on both memory cards. Certainly do-able, but needs quite a bit of manual adjustment

I use MediaMonkey at the moment to sync files on my ZX1 and it works well (I also use the wireless sync option which is great), but am not sure if this will work with the ZX2.

Getting the files on the player is no problem (although I'm not sure the wireless sync of MediaMonkey will work across two drives). If the memory is presented as two different drives how do you guys go about managing playlists? Or do you just do it the slow, manual way?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Paul

I have tried Poweramp and Neutron and I also prefer the Sony stock variant. It's easy to see why - less audio processing going on.

It may be some funny effect on my ears but I checked again and I'm pretty sure the US version feels 20% quieter

Oh sell, thanks anyway.:)

Is there anyone owning a eu version willing to comment on volume cap effects?!

Thanks

Since Sony ain't a sponsor here, it's OK to post something like this.

Maybe they're somewhat "crippling" the USB host of Android in a way that DoP simply won't work without a fix, that's why they could brag about DoP down the road when stuff like ZX100 (or other future models) are available.

Unfortunately they've implemented security measures to prevent everyone from rooting ZX2 as well as the latest firmware versions of ZX1. Therefore the fix for DoP will only work for ZX1 with older firmware versions

Basically it does require USB Host Diagnostics to be installed but that fix won't work at all without root access

In other words, no love for DoP unless we're upgrading from ZX2 to a new model. It's so cheesy for Sony to act like that IMHO.

Workaround is still available since we could encapsulate DSD files with FLAC containers

For streaming via DLNA, the "dopwav" option of MinimServer would be another alternative

Didn't Sony announced that the only version without the limiters is the Japan one ?

I haven't heard about this, I only heard people in this forum mention about it, but no such proof as not everyone has 2 ZX2 to test this apart from 1-2 members.

One of the first things about this addiction I realised, listen with your own ears, pick what works for you. Thanks for reminding me, guys :) Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on anything due to my unfamiliarity with these apps. But yeah, decided to go back to the default player, seems like that's my sound

My response is based on me using a Mac connected to ZX2.  I have no experience connecting the ZX2 to a Windows or Linux platform.  The internal and external memory are present as a drive on the Mac so I would expect that you could use a syncing program.  However, the drives are not presented concurrently.  There is a software switch within the OS which will allow the ZX2 to present either the internal memory OR the external to the Mac (or other computer).  So you won't be able to sync both drives at the same time.

On Windows, as far as I know, I can only read either device storage or memory card, but not both. This is chosen in Android settings. Same for Explorer and Media Go.

If you've tried Media Go, the memory card is read as the Walkman, whether it's inside it or connected some other way (quicker to use a USB 3.0 reader). Maybe you could make playlists on Media Go.

I know I'm just preaching to the choir, but you know that old saying about singers so good you would listen to them singing the phonebook. I have a few tracks in my music library that are the audio equivalent of that. I usually just skip them, but today I found myself listening, because the ZX2 just made them sound so nice. Sony completely went for flattering over accuracy in their design choices--and I'm not complaining. As I approach 200hrs, nothing is dampening my enjoyment of the ZX2 except...

...Don't know what's wrong with me really. It is a disease.

But, the upcoming ZX100 (Sept 2015?) is going to be the new flagship. if you look at it, they are not going after the AK Jr., they're targeting the AK380. The components in the amp section look like they've been beefed up. Sigh, I'm sure it's medical: audiophileoitis.
