I just chatted with a Sony eSupport person and she said that both the MDR-V6 and MDR-7506 have been discontinued.

Aww. But it's not too bad considering that most V6 and 7506 left in the world will last for good 20yrs. I think I have a 10yr+ pair of V6 with me now, and they are perfectly functioning(besides the pads).

the person you were chatting with must be talking about the product lineup in the consumer division.

try contact sony professional usa... because i doubt their pro audio division will ever discontinue 7506.

I think I should mention this. I've been away from my modded V6 for past few month. Now that I have it back, I realize how technically capable these are. I say that these are even more capable than my HD598 and are on par with SRH940 and KEF M500 once EQed.

These $13 pads work great for my MDR-V6 replacements:

Been after a secondhand pair of V6s for many months now as I've thought that because of their studio reputation, I should definitely hear a pair. Found a set with velours on the FS thread and I've been quite happily enjoying them for the last two weeks. I'm a big fan of their accuracy and neutrality. The bass is just right and the instrument separation is as good as I've heard. No question at this point for why they're such a standard. I highly recommend the velours to anyone looking to roll their pads. Super comfortable.

I posted a while ago about my experience with ebay pads, they're less than 5$, the short version is that there's some good ones, and some crap ones, make sure you get the good ones because the crap ones are really garbage!!!

Here's a link to a post which contains a link to another post.  http://www.head-fi.org/t/589885/sony-mdr-v6-and-family-appreciation-thread/210#post_9823208

Thanks, I will try those out; now the only dilemma:  to find MDR-V4s out there!!

I have been using the V404 for about 20 years now. I have always been impressed with their sound. They are broke now, and I am going to replace them with the V6, mabey the 7506. Any reason for me to choose 1 over the other at the same price(82 bucks)?

They use the same drivers, in the same housing, with the same pads. If you ask for a V6 driver, Sony will give you a 7506 driver as they have stopped making the original V6 drivers. Possibly the original V6's sound different, but the modern V6 is the 7506 with a different sticker and cable.

The only audible difference would be less crosstalk in the 7506 due to different wiring.

The differences can be explained by:
-Testing variation.
-Manufacturing variation.

So if I can get the 7506 for $2.00 more at the same store I should get it??

At last, I can actually reply. Cant start a new thread for some reason. I have been able to quote a post twice. This seems like an appropriate place to ask this question.
My 20yr old V404 broke. This has been my only can:frowning2: is that right, I have always just called them phones); except for the ZX100 I bought a Wally-World for 20 bucks a couple weeks ago to fill the void. The ZX100 is sufficent for now but it doesnt sound near as good or are as comfortable as the V404.
I want the V404 sound back, possibly better. I have been leaning toward the V6. It is the same,( V ), series; looks the same;( probably bigger and heavier due to 40mm instead of 30mm drivers+ fitting around the ears, not on top. I dont know how much the 404 was since it was a used gift, but the price on the V6 seems very reasonable;( $80-$85). Of course there is the 7506 just to confuse the heck out of ya that is only 2 bucks more at B+H Video Pro Audio. Is this a reputable store?[ cant post links]
After reading this entire thread 2 or 3 times am I safe in assuming the new V6/7506are the same phone/ sound the same?
I have read the V6 has a little more bass or is that the older ones? If it is true, I would pick the 6. The gold-plated/nickle plated plug probably doesnt really make any difference, though the end of the plug on the V6 looks beefier. I have read the 7506 has a better warrenty. Is this true? If they really sound the same that could be the deciding factor right there.
Sorry for being so long-winded, but if anyone thinks they can un-confuse me even a little, please do so.
ThankYou + have a goog one.

The reason people say 7506 has better warranty is because V6 is discontinued! They sound the same from my experience, and you will be happy with either of them. I think 7506 would be easier/cheaper to find.
