Sony MDR-CD900ST, why don't these get more love?

You can actually get the pads outside of Japan? This is definitely nice to know. I was afraid of the pads inevitably falling apart and having to use the V6 or *shudder* the Beyer pads.

i wouldn't buy a v6, dt250, or any other pads for the cd900st. for me, they degrade the sound too much. i used those pads i mentioned before and it sounds really wrong.

We can order all parts for the CD900ST at soundhouse website. we might need to have a 'buying service' like whiterabbitexpress to get them though, which adds to the cost.

also, any idea what is the driver size of the CD900ST? is it 40mm or 45mm? Thanks.

The MDR-V6 pads changes the sound. I tried it. My contact at Sony said he can order them in the U.S., but it's not cheap at $33 ea.
The CD900st can be had with coiled cable too. I don't know of they will ship to U.S.

Ouch. Lets hope I don't have to replace them any time soon. They seem to be holding up pretty well, especially since I'm not the first owner.

ive been using mine for a long time and the pads are still perfect. what i just do for 'maintenance' is to wipe the sweat (and oilyness) with cloth lightly until the sweat/oil comes off.

You can order parts for the MDR-CD900ST from a online store in Japan:

They also offer repair services for the CD900ST at their physical store too.

I'd really like a pair, but was wondering what the cheapest way to get one to California, USA would be...
Both ebay and amazon ship from japan for around $260-270.  Then there's the customs fees I have to worry about...

Any advice?  Thanks

if you know someone in japan (or any trusty headfier that lives in japan that you know), you can have him or her buy there and have it shipped and declare the value lower so that you wont get taxed bigtime =)

used with very good condition cd900sts can go as low as 5000yen in electronic stores in tokyo.

That one was mine!

But yeah, it's a decent 'phone, but I ended up liking my HD600 just a lot more. The CD900ST is crystal clear and slightly mid-forward though. It has a great sound, I just wasn't using it at all since I had the HD600.

I kinda regret selling it now though. Would've make a great portable headphone with my Dragonfly...
