It seems first one is 24 bits hires flac while the second one is CD quality with 16 bits.. strange the first 24 bits file seems to be so much oversampled..
You are right, I didn't notice that. I frankly don't see the benefit of such a high rate SRC. I'd rather disable it and save some battery and produce less heat.

Is there a change log for what has changed since 1.06? Thanks.

Updates notes are included on the linked page.

There's something with the Qobuz application. Although it is 44.1 kHz file, the displayed sample rate is 705.6 kHz, as if some sample rate conversion is applied. Is it only a display issue? If not and a SRC is applied, is it possible to disable it? Thank you.

Will check on this. 705kHz is strange, that should get activated only for MQA files.

Checking on this, it seems this is an actual MQA file on Qobuz. It can happen if the music label provides them with just MQA file for streaming. It also explains why it's in this less usual 24/44.1 file, which is fairly typical for MQA files.

So M9 Plus behaves correctly in this situation, doing 16x unfolding on the MQA file, which gets you the 705.6 kHz sampling rate.

MQA Files on Qobuz ? It's strange as it's many years I am using this provider, I have never seen any MQA files there.

We were not aware of that either, but a quick search brings up a range of discussions on this topic from the past few years:

You are right, it is MQA! I bought the album and played it via Shanling player application and UAPP.

So I have been spending more and more time with M9 Plus. I am quite annoyed at the M9 Plus boot time and lack of android 12 but hey, you can't be perfect... My initial impressions stand, and then some. Maybe it's burn in or brain burn in or both.... I must be around 200 hours now.

M9 Plus strikes a balance of qualities that is quite a mix :
  • vibrant with the right energy everywhere,
  • organic and full bodied yet with stunning separation and detail,
  • powerful and able to drive headphones but no distorsion whatsoever and a black background with zero hiss.
This one will make it hard for Shanling to top himself, as I said before, this could (should?) have been M10 as it's no incremental iteration to M9. Just wow, pure enjoyment!

I am not keeping M17 since M9 Plus has enough power for DCA Stealth on the go.
After much A/B to my surprise I am letting go of RS8 R2R goodness and I don't think I can justify keeping N7 as well for all its 1bit DAC glory... this one I am still on the fence about, will probably depend how WM1ZM2 turns out to be...
Hello.
A question from someone who has only been in this hobby for a very short time: I only use DAP to listen to streaming music (Qobuz) and flac files on a memory card. My musical tastes encompass rock, metal, pop, very little jazz and no classical music. In your opinion, SHANLING M9+ is much superior in SQ to the CAYIN N7? Is it worth the move from CAYIN to SHANLING?
I had the M6 ULTRA and despite the good reviews it did not convince me.
Thank you

What surprises me is that there is still no TPU cases, no screen protectors for the M9+
I was disappointed with the screen protectors that are included with the M9+, as they were challenging for me to install without getting air bubbles. I also didn’t think they helped with fingerprints much.

I had ordered a set from an Australian company called ScreenShield for my SP2000T that I was quite happy with. Good quality and you don’t see all the fingerprint smudges. I inquired if they could make them for the M9+ and they were happy to do so. I received them today and the install was simple. Highly recommend if you want to upgrade yours.

Has anyone else experienced their unit shutting down when still charged? Or after plugging in a no battery unit, it instantly displays 40%+ charge but that isn't the case at all?

I went to bed last night when the unit was full charge and ON, while now I wake up this morning to find the M9 Plus has shut down and is no longer turning on. Trying to enter the android recovery mode isn't doing anything either...

I have tried charging the device via wall charger, powerbank, connecting it to a computer, none of which are having any sort of response either.

Anything else I should try @Shanling? The unit is only two weeks old.

I have not experienced this issue myself, but if you have not done so try holding your power button down for 12 seconds. This is supposed to initiate a forced restart of the M9 Plus.
