Hi,

In order to improve my audio experience with my computer i decided to go with a Shiit stack. Problem is, the most complicated thing i did in the past when it comes to audio has been to connect my headphones directly to my soundcard (lol). I'm a bit afraid i will be overwhelmed with setting up these DAC/Amp with my comp.

Would someone be kind enough to explain me step by step how to plug these two things in order to have them work with my computer and headphones. Instructions like, "plug this to that using that cable", then " that to this". Sorry it has to come to that, but i'm a total beginner with this stuff.

Also, can you describe me what supplementary stuff (likes cables) not included in the stack package i will have to buy.

Thanks very much

Also i'm joining a pic of my comp back panel, just to make sure i have all the ports needed to install the stack, and to maybe help you to give me more detailled instructions.

So you need to run a toslink optical cable from the computer's "SPDIF OUT" port to the toslink optical input port on the Modi DAC.

Here is the correct cable, in a 3ft length.

You cab also order it in a longer length, in needed.

You might also need to enable S/PDIF output in the audio control panel (Realtek?).

You will need a USB type B cable to connect the Modi to the PC, and a pair of short RCA cables to connect the Magni to the Modi. Alternatively if you get the Modi 2 Uber version you can use a Toslink cable (the jack is labeled SPDIF out on your MB) instead of USB to connect it. It's that simple, then you just need to select the USB device (or S/PDIF if you use that) in the Windows sound control panel, and get updated drivers if necessary.

The only thing that will plug into your computer is a USB cable. I don't think Schiit sends anything but power cords so you will need a set of rca cables to connect the dac to the amp and a USB cable to the computer. You will need to download the drivers for the dac also. You can plug the USB cable right next to the one in the pic. Schiit has install instructions on their site also. You may or not have to disable your onboard sound but I think the drivers will do that for you. If you have a problem post back I'm sure you will find the help that you need. Good luck.

It's going to be the cheapest, non uber version so i understood Toslink won't be an option. It's not Realtek, it's called "Supreme FX".

Thanks to everyone that contributed to help. I'll post again when i'll have the products with me and if i can't make it work :)

Oh, last thing, those can drive 600 ohm impedance headphones, right ?

For the Youtube video, that's the first thing i did actually to try to avoid bothering you people here, but couldn't find one detailling the set up.

Here are the cables I used with my Schiit stack. They're excellent for the very low price.

Yes, 600 ohm headphones are no problem.

So you have a Modi USB DAC, which comes with a USB "type B" input port.
So you need a USB cable with a type A plug on one end and a type B plug on the other.

Connecting a USB DAC to the PC will bypass all the sound card features of your Supreme FX

Monoprice are good quality cables. Inexpensive and well built can't go wrong there.

Chances are the motherboard uses a Realtek audio processor and Realtek drivers.
Asus just uses the term Supreme FX to make their Realtek seem more special.
