Sennheiser IE800 IEM's

I do believe that the cable is tough; it seems to be excellent. It's another reason to question the use of the connector.

Don't get me wrong, I love the IE800. It's just that the cable design is maddeningly daft.

Thus the key word in our quest to obtain audio-nirvana :p. "Maddening" and the dreaded word, "compromise".

^ Yep, compromise seems to be inevitable - although in this case it could easily have been avoided!     :)

Meanwhile my Pico Slim should be delivered Monday when I may unfortunately be on the road. I will have it later in the week. I cannot wait to see if my hopes for synergy with the IE800 bear out. More to follow down the road.

Pico Slim is in the house. It is way to early to comment. But I am allowed to smile. :)

I will have this on a business trip for the next few days including a 3 1/2 hour fast train tomorrow and further travel after that. There will be lots of time to test the Pico Slim IE800 synergy.

Where can you get IE800 for 750 USD?

I also believe its MSRP is 599 euro, which is about 799 USD, in case Europe is easier to get stuff from. I won't be buying these until they drop lower, though, which might take a while... I do like the way they look, and the impressions I've read.

Actually most iem cables don't snap at the 3.5mm connector part, but the part where the wires meets the iems themselves, what if it snaps? Then one will have to visit the service centre. The 3.5mm connector isn't that hard to solder anyway, tons of plugs available nowadays and all requires the same workmanship.

To Sennheiser's credit, the cable attachment points into the IE800 earpieces seem to be robust and secure, the best that I have seen on an IEM.

Since the IE800's snap-on tips are proprietary and not as securely attached to the earpiece as conventional tips, I thought it would be a good idea to have some spare tips at hand.

Here are the part numbers for IE800 spare tips:

- 552762: size S (one pair)
- 552763: size L (one pair)
- 552764: oval size S-M (one pair)
- 552765: oval size M-L (one pair)

And here's the MSRP: 29 euros (~ 39 dollars) for one pair.

OUCH...better be careful!

I received my Studio V today and must say the synergy with the IE800 is rather good!

Useful info, thanks. I only use the oval M-L so I guess I could justify an investment in a wildly over-priced spare.

(These tips should show up in HK eventually. Land of accessories.)
