There will always be differences as manufacturing is not a perfect art.

Very true wink,  in this case with the HD-800 sometimes those manufacturing differences are audible.

It has been documented that products made on Monday mornings and Friday afternoons have the highest percentage of faults and failures of daily production.

LOL yes as in "The late Friday RS-1"

Some would say ANY RS-1, but that is a bit severe (Like the treble of Grado's to some ears)

True...although you gotta admit back in the day the RS-1 had its place (and for some I'm sure it still does)

At one time it was "all that and a bag of chips" lol

Got my HD 800's 4 days ago, dunno what the ideal frequency is as I don't understand the technicality of sound. Can anyone help explain this? Is it any good? How does it compare to other 800s?

My Modi 2 uber and Magni 2 uber are also on the way, right now the headphones are being driven through my on board audio from the Asus Maximus VII Hero. I'm seriously surprised at how good they sound and what a great job the motherboard is doing.

I signed up to tidal and have been listening to music and really enjoying Trivium, Atreyu, Linkin Park, John Legend, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, Simon & Garfunkel... These headphones are just simply amazing. I feel like throwing away my ATH-A900X that I got a year ago, they sound muddy and don't have as much separation. The bass is also very good, I don't understand the complaints about lack of bass with these cans.

HD800 FROM  S/N 308XX  IS SO GOOD IN OPEN WIDE VERY GOOD BASS  EXCLENT - THIS ONE IS FROM A FERND

So you have 3 sets - because they are significantly different.

When I first compared my two sets (didn't intend to keep both..) - I thougt - "hey - it is actually not insane to keep them both..."

My 16XXX is sounding very neutral and might be called flat wrt frequency response, but not in terms of the soundstage - that i superb. This corresponds to the your impressions of your 159XX.

Your 123XX is descriebed as "open" and with extra boost at 6kHz. This corresponds to the first HD800 I owned years ago - which I sold because of fatigue - and this might correspond to the 6kHz peak yao are descriebing.

My 28XXX is louder, fuller and warmer. This corresponds to the your impressions of your 29XXX

So.....just speculating here on a very low dat sample it seems like there is indications of early this:
- early models have more treble intensity, might be fatiguing to some
- later models were very neutral
- newer models are warmer and fuller sounding.

Does this rhyme with other peoples experience?

thank you for this .it is very very Correct and all three have a different sound

i am not the only one to her this .
I wrote to the company in Germany. I told them what I hear - they had nothing to tell me apart - each earphone - are the same creature but sometimes there is little difference in the production process
