Thanks for the recommendation by the way, finally got to give my Neco a try yesterday. Obviously I need to do more listening, but I'm quite liking the little amp so far. Being bit of a bass head I expected I'd want to use bass boost constantly, but so far I've actually preferred to leave it off. Funnily enough the switch works 'backwards' from what it says on Neco's site, but this is of little consequence.

Glad you liked it! The V3 is a tremendous, bang for your buck amp. Time after time, I've been blown away by the sound quality. I've AB'd w/ the SR71A, ALO National, and for its price, I just couldn't find a reason to go with the others..

I am new in the Head-fi community I am from India (15 years old).
I have the 650's paired with the STX the sound quality is magnificent considering my low experience in the audiophile world.
After reading several posts on head-fi about the scaling up ability of the 650 it makes me think what am I listening to, there is so much to discover in the long run cannot imagine how they would sound after 300 hrs with a vacuum and upgraded cables.
Just lucky enough to have these at the price I bought them new in India , it is just luck.
Hope to enjoy happy hours with my 650 :)

Enjoy the 650...it's a tremendously good hp and can be end game. Just depends on what you're looking for. Anyway, best of luck and enjoy!!

I really was hoping to try out the HD650 as a HE400 and DT770LE replacement, but my money needs to go towards a higher priority right now. Just picked up the HD558 hoping that can hold me over for the next 6-12 months. I just EQ in some bass boost and imagine I'm listening to the HD650s (which I've never listened to before). I think I'm a fan of oval pads over round now, just need to loosen up the clamp.

I have my HD650 already quite some time and forgot to ask .. do you guys use any EQ on your HD650 ?

I use mine like this for now :

foobar2000 w/ Wasapi & Electri-Q -> Schiit Modi -> Schiit Lyr w/ Valvo E88CC -> HD650 -> My happy ears

I feel like whatever I play thru this sounds excellent to me.

ps: Big thanx to MattTCG for recommending me Lyr, love this thing

That looks like a pretty good EQ for the HD650. I use a similar one with my HD600s and I love it, especially for music with lots of sub-bass.

^^ Glad that it's working out for you.

 No EQ for me.

It definitely is : - )

I felt bit weird about paying twice price of headphones for amp, but now I can say it is worth it for me. (Got HD650 for 5600 czk and Lyr with tubes, transformer, shipping etc was about 11000 czk :D)

Yea exactly, I said in some post that my HD650 is "jumping on my head", it was maybe bit of overstatement, but yes bass with this setup is awesome.

Some day I would like to try HD600 too, to see the difference between these two miracles

Looks also quite similar :) That sub-bass boost is great. As for punch I loved my SR225i, but since I got Lyr I only use them at work, they don't get nearly any headtime at home anymore if HD650 are available :D

Why would you want to add more bass to the he400?

The bass is the crown jewel of this hp. Why muck it up and make it bloomy and loose all the wonderful texture? If anything I'd knock that hot treble back a touch and that it. Just me...

So I'd just finished watching Oblivion in the cinema and as the credits rolled and the title music played, all I thought was, I bet this would sound brilliant on my HD 650. Show's you where my priorities are doesn't it?

Those female vocals!

Dang, you weren't kidding! Those vocals are amazing.

Matt, I think you thought this was the wrong thread... of course I would EQ down treble on the HE-400, but I would still push sub bass up...
