Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

Looking for some input regarding the HD650 comfort if you have rather big ears. I just bought Beyer DT 770 Pros and they get painfully uncomfortable after an hour or so. My old Senn HD595s were a tad uncomfortable after a few hours or so but they were a lot better compared to the Beyers.

Looking at my headphones, there is a lot more paint on the hd650 than the hd580. It looks like all the outer parts of the 650s are painted and I haven't had them long enough to chip the paint (two weeks). I guess I'll have to be careful.

The only chipping on my 14 year old 580s is on the headband and the only other paint on them is on the grills. The rest appears to be plain old black plastic

I've had my HD650 for a few years and never have had any chipped paint. As long as you are not rough with them or hit them against something you should be fine.

whilst scrutizing the resale mkt, i get the feel that hd650s tend to have more tendency for paint chipping away than hd600s...or the folks in my area tend to doze off in their 650s...n knocked theirs against the wall/floor? lolz

The 650's do have massive cups sp they shouldn't be a problem. I find them the comfiest headphones I've owned to date.

I can't wear the Beyer 770/880 too for the same reason. Please refer to post #19086 from a few days ago.

IMO it all comes down to the shapes/size of our heads and ears for me the DT8XX is more comfortable than the HD 650.

I must admit I've found the beyers very comfortable aswell but then I have quite small ears. I can only imagine that for the beyers to be uncomfortable, the length of the gentleman's ears might be the issue. Therefore, the long oval shape of the 650's might be better if the circular beyer pads had been a problem, comfort wise. Like anything the best bet is to see if you can try them out somewhere first.

Thanks.

Still not convinced about HD650 being comfortable enough for me. A lot of people seem to think that they have a higher than usual clamping force as well compared to other open Sennheisers.

Might some AKGs (like K612/712 Pro) be better for a Dumbo like me?

Trust me. You can't find more comfortable headphones than HD600/650. Clamping force is not an issue at all - and can be dealt with in under 5 minutes.

When they are brand new, yes they do; but it goes away with time (2ish weeks for me) or just a little flexing of the headband. Mind you that it was NEVER so much that I couldn't wear them or got fatigued, and it's NOTHING like a heavy planar magnetic. Don't over think a handful of comments.

How do the ear cups compare to HD595? My upper ear lobes get a bit sore if I listen to them for long periods of time.

And I stress. At the moment I want the most comfortable headphones I can find. Even if it comes at the expense of sound quality..
