Exactly this. While the Senn's so far have been amazing some improved sub bass would make the movie/gaming experience so much more immersive for me.

I've recently changed the headband pads as they got as flat as a pool table.
I like the impact / bumpy sound of these cans, compared to my Stax sets (SR-009 excepted), but I've never managed to feed these with a decent amp. Phones out of my Yamaha integrated amp only. Which budget amp should I buy ? JDSLabs O2 ?

Has anybody else replaced their HD580/600 headband pad with the HD650 one? I find the HD650 headband pads much more comfortable on my head.

I just did that as a matter of fact and you are right, they are thicker and much more comfortable, I replaced the cables and earpads as well. The only part of my phones that are still HD600 are the frame and drivers.

You're using them while owning a pair of Stax? Do you think they complement each other?

Easier to plug in to whatever source I have 

 And kinda dynamic slam you can't get from my Stax's (except SR-009, of course, one pair of headphones to rule them all).
On the Stax side, SR-5, SR-X/Mk3 (currently re-cabling), SR-009, soon SR-Lambda Normal Bias...and maybe SR-5N Gold 

SR-5, SR-X/Mk3  (+ SRD-7/SB) and HD600 inherited from my father in 2004.

I didn't know that the earpads were different as well. What's the difference?

I know I just got the HD600's, and I LOVE them. But honestly I'm already getting curious about what the HD800's sound like compared to the 600's LOL. Do they have a lot of things in common like the 650's and 600's do? Or would the 600's and 800's compliment each other well?

I didn' have any HD600 but I own both HD580 and HD800. HD580 and HD600 seems to be very near I think. So I think I can give you my opinion.
 
HD800 and HD580 share IMO the same house sennheiser sound.  Deep, impactful with a peculiar sense of grandeur and a weighty sound. HD800 is surely a better headphone: more detailed and articulate, more transparent , airier with an exceptionnal sense of image but loses (still in my opinion) a bit of HD600/580 strenghts. HD800 is more unforgivin and energetic and if it sounds far better for classical music , some Jazz and some Downtempo/Ambient Electronica due to its huge soundstage without any loss of intimacy NEvertheless I still appreciate a lot my hd580 for its homogeneity. Smaller soundstage and more smoothness does marvels for any genre. Less impressive indeed but very enjoyable for all style of music. The HD800 is a bit brighter too and HD580 a bit warmer  but both are very near to neutrality 
 
That said , the HD800 is very very versatile and cand sound very differently depending on upstream gear. So with the right amp and/or the right source. I think you really have something like an "uber" HD600 with HD800. 
 
In my case I won't keep both cans. HD800 stays but I'm mad. I'm stil convinced that HD600/580 is the best bet to enjoy music perfectly without spending so much money. HD800 brings us in Hi end audiophile experience and it's an exciting experience of listening for sure but i'm simply not convinced that music enjoyment needs more than HD600 .
 
HD650 is darker and brings more lush ( very refined low mids ) to the table. I think it's a better compliment to HD800 than HD600/580

That's how I feel about mine. I'm sure there are better headphones out there (subjectively speaking, of course), but the HD600's do everything for me. They hit every note precisely to my taste and can't see myself upgrading them any time soon. If anything, I'll be looking into more amplifiers and DAC's.

Having spent two weeks almost strapped to mine with a Mjolnir, I gotta say, I'm really content with them.
 
I've listened to various other headphones within that time, including my own Senn 700 and 800, but these are definitely good.  Magnum Grado, Senn 650, Darth Beyer, Beyer 770, UE TF10.

This is good to know. Thanks for all the info! Since I use my cans almost exclusively to listen to vinyl I'd probably notice greater sonic improvements by improving my table or cartridge. Right now a Rega Elys 2 cartridge is on my music shortlist.
