Sennheiser HD 580 vs. HD 600 ?

I don't support a popular belief on head-fi but I personally would go for the HD 600. That way when you have the green to do some serious upgrading you won't have to upgrade your phones as well

I think that in the 600 the drives are also better matched.....

Yes

The HD600 sounds virtually the same with the same cabling, but add in the aftermarket cables.. and the HD580s would jump over the standard HD600s

That was my brief experience with both at my fingertips, and I preferred the 580s. For my ears, more high treble and punchier bass in the 580s. Heck if I know if I was just imagining it or not, though.

hey,

if you like smoother, warmer sound, then go with the 600.

if you like a more analytical sound, then go with the 580.

Thanks, Duncan and JahJahBinks. I found your comments about a replacement cable(for 580s) reassuring... Yes, my next upgrade will be the Clou Blue($89), because I think that I would have a hard time explaining to my non-audiophile friends(who already think I'm crazy) that I spent $150(Cardas,Equinox) on a cable for a $125 pair of headphones!

i returned my 580 so i'm only left with a 600 now... haha too bad i can't do a-b anymore, but it was definately a fun experiment... while it lasted! hehe

I can A/B now that I have the HD600s as well, and I can safely say that the HD600 (on my setup) is superior to the HD580... and its more than just a subtle difference too...

Highly noticeable at the moment, extra especially in the bass department... oh, and these HD600s are second hand, and have been burnt in... so I don't think you can attribute it to that....

That being said HD580 lovers... don't go throwing your cans in the bin yet!!... Superior, I may have said... but its still a very Sennheiser sound... not worth spending another $450 on if you're happy with the HD580s

That's interesting Duncan, but do you still think that the 580's with a replacement cable would sound better than the stock 600's, or haven't you done a comparo yet? GlowWorm

The only thing really is that the treble is slightly muted on the HD600s, and the bass a little sloppy... when the HD580s have the cable on...

turn the tables though, and the HD580s are outclassed by quite a way in my opinion

Oh well, I guess I'll have to make do with the HD 580s, and the Clou Blue I just ordered, but I doubt if I'll be in pain though.

It's just the pain we 580 owners can only describe as, "So close.......yet so...far......"
