for glitchy IDM with a sense of humor, check out Mouse on Mars.

Aiora Tahiti is a good album to start with.

Yea, that is a nice one. Some of their later stuff gets a bit too playful for me, but I do like that one a lot.

I second the Boards of Canada & Aphex Twin recommendations (also, the DJ Shadow, but that's not really electronic music).

I'll add to that, German computer glitch master Oval (Ovalprocess is probably the most accessable), and N.Y. electric sound-space artists the Balck Dice (Beaches & Canyons is more relaxed, Creature Comforts is slightly too abrassive for me, and I haven't heard the new one, but I've read some good reviews about it).

If you want really old-school, proto-electronic music, you can try the Silver Apples, all the way back from 1969. Weird combination of psychedelic music with early synthesizers.

playful is a perfect word to describe MoM... not everyone's cup o' tea, but they're really a nice antidote to the likes of Autechre and BoC, both of whom can sound a little overserious. of course, i still love both. and i am partial to music with a sense of humor.
