Texas is the only state I’ve ever been to where I’ve heard people say, “it’s too hot out to use the swimming pool.” 🤷🏻‍♂️😅

Still, sounds like what I’d call a “high quality problem” when you’re coming from New York in February!
Yeah, there’s hot (I spent HS and University in Arizona) and then there is Texas HOT. Summer is literally 5 months where you cannot do anything outside that doesn’t involve water and/or AC or both. Think: 120+ days where almost every day the high is in the high 90’s with humidity dewpoints above 70F… it’s relentless. We lasted 4 years. We’re now back in NH. Yes, cold winters, but not as cold as long as Texas was hot. Horses for courses.

Wifey calls it “surface of the sun” hot.

We see that sort of driving behavior every day around here. That's why driving has become a chore instead of a fun excursion. It's best to avoid the interstate highways at all cost. :)
OK back to the tube discussion.
"Thanks to the Interstate Highway System, it is now possible to travel across the country from coast to coast without seeing anything." Charles Kuralt

Well there's a clue to old age if that rings a bell ......also why we are on the roads with the RV 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM and prefer State and US highways. Gotta hand it to Texas roads, mighty fine. And the ones at 80 MPH? Gets you to a destination with more time to enjoy your Schiit, if you live! :)

More words of wisdom from the Walter Cronkite/Charles Kuralt era last century before the country was taken over by fast food chains:

"You can find your way across this country using burger joints the way a navigator uses stars." :)

One last one to chew on:

"You can't travel the back roads very long without discovering a multitude of gentle people doing good for others with no expectation of gain or recognition. The everyday kindness of the back roads more than makes up for the acts of greed in the headlines. Some people out there spend their whole lives selflessly."

...and that's the way it was!

Under a high fog layer currently, was 55*F and 100% humidity, gradually changing to 58*F and 85% humidity, might get to 76*F if the fog breaks...so good California weather today.

My 6sn7 to 5670 adapter just arrived so I will listen to 15 or 20 different Melz, followed by various VT 231’s, maybe a Tung Sol black glass round plate, a couple Ken-Rads.

Just fun listening for now.😁 Current listen is a 1954 perforated plate Melz. Vali 3 works well thus far. Musical choice is a 1974 Moody Blues compilation double album on Qobuz.

Indeed a winner. And it's not that the new knob is bad... it's just that the old knob was really good.
You can get knobs of practically every size and every material on Ebay. That's where my manly man's Vali 3 knob came from.

My 5 Star arrives tomorrow...will compare!

Very cool, I look forward to it. Oh and I just picked up an extra Amperex 12AU7 with you in mind. I need to get my adapter to my Vali 3, but if it checks out well it could quite possibly be heading your way.🤪

Wow that looks like a Elon Musk Starlink contraption!! LOL!

Wonder where if the MELZ ar 100 volts on the plate matches any of the tubes designed load lines??
Have to look at the curves...

Would you need a sub? Maybe. What's the bottom end on the CVs? A dedicated sub may go a lot lower, but depending on your use case, perhaps not a need.
Thanks for the help ! I found an old sheet listing 32hz , sensitivity 103 . Not sure what sub should be paired with these, but open to trying one.
