I run a 7.2 system but I may go smaller in the near future, repairing my receiver twice is enough for me. I hope to simplify. Women have a tendency to live longer than men so I would want to leave my wife a less complicated system. My son will get my audio gear and he will figure it out.😉
A well setup 5.1 is really decent...
I have a small 6.1 setup,
Its ok for movies.
Very room dependent.

Listening I always go back to 2 ch...simple.

I have a 5.1 system made of Speakerlab point ones and a SVS thumper on their optional rubber feet. Sounds great. But I agree. Tunes.... It's 2 channel!!

I definitely want to check out the Kraken, and I will have another look at SYN. I do not mind solid state for TV and it is a little late in the game to teach my wife about tubes.😁 I would be happy to hear any thoughts on Syn from those of you who use one.
I've always watched tv or movies with my 2 channel gear. I don't have any home theater experience.
The Kraken -Syn is probably what I will try, but I have a question. I have 5 (really 8 total) cerwin vega (15 in woofers) in storage. Are these speakers too much for the center and surround channels? Guessing that I wouldn't need a sub .

the thing about 5.1 to 7.1 is the throwing of sound. I tried yamaha sound bar and that was fantastic at throwing sound, unfortunately not compatible at the time with my ps3 which was how we watched movies before streaming. any rate bose was compatible with everything...

I have a birthday coming up in early June so it may well be the Syn/Kraken for me. It would not require a huge amount of power for me to be happy. Maybe Cowen would send me a Syn if I build him his tube and spice rack lazy Susan he wants.🤪🤪

.... here is the balm to ease your phonographic angst .... IMG_8055.jpegIMG_8054.jpeg🤪 😂 🫵
I'm gonna guess that is not a low mass arm, unless it's made of cardboard and painted to look like metal. 🤣

I believe the Kraken specs will come out soon. I should be fine with 30-50 watts per channel, my speakers are 8 ohm and not super efficient.

these speakers are pretty efficient . Should be good with Kraken . I could shake the house with 4 of them connected to my old adcom mono amps.
I'm over that these days. My hearing is pretty good .I'd like to keep it that way.

This am its a GE 5670W in Vali 3.
No adapter.

This tube rivals my WE 396a's, yup it does.
Listening to Walter Hyatt, Schiit MB + dac, HIGH Gain, HE 1000 SE cans...like he is my head.
A really awesome experience.

Atomic Bob at another site likes this tube alot...has published all the charts and graphs.

Under Low gain there is less harmonics, but he likes to listen to the High gain setting...I agree here for my ears.

Compared to a set costing 17x times more...and states how well the Vali 3 provides such a great musical experience.

Could not agree more.

I do like the idea of one five channel amp compared to my hooking up numerous amplifiers, so that is a win. 🤪

That sounds like it would kick ass! It’s not going to be the best balanced or accurate sound but I bet it’ll sound fun.

Not that I am going to build one but how big of a tube rack would you honestly need? Seriously quartered oak to match your desk would be pretty spiffy.
I am assuming that it would probably need to dwarf his desk, Tom, and you'd have to ship it on a flatbed...
