Post and discuss vintage rock & roll recordings made by the artists who originally formed and shaped the genre.

Post as much as you like. But please post only one video or track per message to make things more manageable. And try to post only authorized content whenever possible.

The quality of many of these recordings may be quite poor and rather shrill btw, so adust your volume & EQ controls accordingly. :)

Blind Roosevelt Graves - "Crazy About My Baby" (1929).

One of the oldest recordings sometimes cited as a precursor or early example of the genre...

1938 recording of "Rock Me" by the famed gospel singer and guitarist Sister Rosetta Tharpe, sometimes referred to as "the godmother of rock"...

Illinois Jacquet at the LA Phil in 1944. The sax gets quite shrill and high-pitched on this at times, fyi.

Wynonie Harris in 1948. This is pretty rock & rolly. And on the bright side.

Fats was definitely the rocker of the team, in the beginning anyway. But alot of that "Fats Domino sound" also came from this guy...
