Ok, Thanks wkamil. Like to have the capacity of the classic but really trying to avoid itunes. Nothing against it but my PC hard drive died and basically lost my whole library of music and some other stuffs. Have not sync my iphone4 for months so as not to lose all that is in the phone now. Taking my time to build them all up again but now going with flac and would really like to see a stable build for the classic and throw in an amp combo.

So nobody's put more than 40,000 tracks on their 240gb upgrade? While I'd love to get it and stick Rockbox on it, last time I checked J River Media Center doesn't sync play stats back with Rockbox, and I've got years worth of play stats that I don't want to lose, hence sticking with the stock firmware.

Got mine today and all seems to be in order. I have a 3 year old 7th gen 160GB Classic and the only visible difference is that the 240GB one has a deeper back to accomodate the bigger disc and this one is a darker black than my old one. Soundwise everything also seems to be OK, I can't hear any difference between them. I have about 18.000 tracks in 320KB aac soa total of just under 200GB,

Hope it does serve you as good as mine has been working since December 2011. It sounds identical to my retired 160Gb 7G.

If someone is feeling up to it, could you test >32000 tracks with the stock firmware?  It's the one test I haven't seen done with the 7g upgrade.

I can't since i just have  15000 tunes.

I only got 18000 tracks and that works although with a little lag getting cover art. Also the 240GB disk is mechanically a little noisier than the stock 160GB but nothing you hear through the headphones

Thanks for the review. I currently have the 160GB 2009 iPod Classic, and it's half full now but it's always good to know that there's an option to upgrade. Hopefully we get cheaper high capacity SD cards and mp3ps supporting them in the next year or two.

Didn't you get 36 hours of playback time with your stock Classic when it was new? Mine's like 2 years old and it also gets a bit less than 20 hours I think.

Update: received the new screen for free after contacting the seller some weeks ago, finally found time to install it.
No more dead pixels FTW!
