Hardcore/metal rules, in all of it's stupid little sub genres everyone tries to classify different bands in. 
Currently, though I've been pretty well-acquainted with my local hardcore scene for quite a while, I've been listening to stuff from these bands:
Fall of Troy
Hotcross
Between the Buried and Me
Glasscasket
The #12 Looks Like You (more of a grindcore band, actually)
Converge
Haste the Day
Poison the Well
As I lay Dying
...just to name a few.
