PS Audio Stellar Powerplant 3

I'm happy to see that our iPower Elite serves you well. At the same time, if you don't experience truncated dynamics due to daisy-chained power strips/conditioners, enjoy the heck out of their black backgroud :)
I think it’s high time you guys developed a full sized power conditioner to compete with the likes of Audioquest, Shunyata, and others. You’re most of the way there already with your power products, right? 😉

The Perfectwave PowerPlants (including P3) are on sale over at PS Audio. I guess the Stellar PP3 is part of the Perfectwave line? 🤷‍♂️

The P12 looks very compelling (especially at sale price). Admittedly, never thought much about power in the midst of headphones, amps/dacs, etc., but am reaching the point investing in something like the P12 would be worth it. I can attest to the day/night phenomena, if anything, which the P12 (and other like products) are supposed to help out with. Gotta go easy on the wallet, got drawn in to the SACD transport 🤣
I think power conditioning/regeneration/regulation is underrated on head-fi. It makes a huge impact on your systems overall sound. PS Audio has a 30-day trial period, so if the P12 looks good to you and the sale price is right, I’d encourage you to think about it. If it doesn’t work out, just return it.

Who knows, perhaps at some point we will make a power conditioner, but for now our PowerStation already does a lot given its price and form factor. This one is an active product that actually behaves like a conditioner, just not the usual type

I got a good sale on a ps audio p300 (old model of pp3) and wondering how much different would it make since both uses power regeneration of maximum 300watts to clean the electric. Would it be better to head straight to the pp3?

ps. The pp3 cost 4.5x of the used p300

Maybe someone here has had experience with both models, but I think you're more likely to get an answer if you post on PS Audio's user forum. People there are pretty helpful. The url is forum dot psaudio dot com.

Really enjoying my PP3; it made a noticeable improvement to the sound. Shame the AUS model only has 4 sockets.

If I may ask, what was the previous power conditioner/bar you had?

Didn't have one. Only thing I used was a basic Isotek power strip (which now feeds the rest of my gear). This is my first foray into proper power conditioning.

OK, now I understand, your first encounter with a power conditioner was this much more surprising because you had no experience with such products before. In any case, enjoy :)

I was a fool. An Audiophool. Tonight I disconnected my daisy-chained power conditioners and plugged my components directly into the P12 Power Plant. It was no comparison. Everything is now holographic and impactful in a way it hasn't been for months.

Starting six months back, I was on a quest to make the music "smoother" sounding because I'm one of those people that's allergic to prominent treble peaks, and I accomplished that through power conditioner addition. Adding one after another gave all my music the smoothness I sought, but at the expense of it sounding less and less like real life, because the dynamics were increasingly compressed.

I have put my Shunyata PS10 and iFi PowerStation conditioners in the closet. Whatever components I can't fit into the back of the P12 (really wish I'd bought a P15 instead), I have connected to a non-conditioning, non-current-limiting Pangea Audio power strip that is then plugged into the P12.

And everything sounds so much better, so much more alive. Unfortunately, that means crappily-recorded 80s music sounds like crappy 80s music, but now I can hear the tinny synthesizer harmonies in the background that were faded out when I had oversmoothed the crappy 80s music with power conditioner madness.

The P12 all by itself does a fantastic job with my system. I'm drawing the line at running only one power conditioner at a time. Never again.

Live and learn

No hard feelings about the fact that now our PowerStation isn't used, I fuly understand what you had and have now. I still would like to encourage you to directly compare your P12 to our power distributor if you haven't yet. Who knows what happens then

Reading up on the PowerPlants these always seem to be the two "problems":
  • I wish I bought one sooner
  • I wish I bought a bigger one!
Well now I know I should just go straight for the P12 and I was right to skip a conditioner.

Are you pushing the P12 or just thinking about extra headroom? Reading BHK 600 posts over on the PS forums the monoblocks + dac + pst are pushing the P20 to its limit... 90% ... 🤯

In addition to extra headroom, the problem is that the outlets are spaced really closely together on both the P3 and the P12. If you use audiophile-sized power cables for your components, you won’t be able to make use of all the outlets in the back of the power plant. You’ll ruin your cables if you try to cram them into the available space.

This is a known design issue, and the only solution if you have more than 4 or 5 components to plug in, is to buy a P15 or P20, where there are five groups of horizontally distributed duplexes.

I supppose this only applies to US plug versions.
On the EU Schuko Version you can use all outlets with huge cables without issue (you have less outlets tho)

Have found that Shunyata Research power cables are not suitable for connecting P12 Power Plant to the wall. Too much filtering/silver content in V2 models of Shunyata cables robs the natural warmth of the P12. Tried both the Sigma NR V2 and the more reasonably-priced Delta NR V2. Neither was a good match.
