One of the 'less Russian' Russian composers, master of counterpoint or Russian Bach. I love his String Trio, and if you love fugues you should give it a try
Although not exactly ‘popular’ classical music, I am posting it here because I don’t know what kind of reception it will get sharing a thread with Rush and the Doobie Brothers’ Greatest Hits.
Zappa/Ensemble Modern
Everything is Healing Nicely
Released posthumously in 1999, this is really a prequel to the much better-known, somewhat more accessible*, The Yellow Shark. Still, if you’re interested in Zappa’s serious, post-modern ‘classical’ music, this one is worth seeking out. Features L.Shankar (violin) on ‘Roland’s Big Event/Strat Vindaloo’.
NB: While there is no singing (it is not opera), there is a good deal of spoken word, some which could be considered offensive. It is, after all, Frank Zappa.
Enjoy!
* ‘Accessible’ is a relative term, in this case.

^ Beautiful! These days I hardly listen anything pre Beethoven era, my ears just don't get along well with Baroque or music from the Classical era (maybe because for so many years that's what I listened to exclusively), but the exception is Bach, and in particular his vocal music
That's what I'm listening to right now, enjoyable, although not as remarkable
A video to give an idea, although it's not from the same artists
