If you had your way, given your set-up, preferences, and listening habit, what length should a headphone cable be? This is for your home-based system, not your portable.

5 feet for me. Long enough to reach from my amp to me with just enough slack where the cable isn't on the floor.

I find 5 feet is my perfect length. It provides some give with a home based unit in case I jerk my head but short enough so I don't have cable all over the place. If I need longer - which is rare - I have an extension I built.

I should have qualified my previous post by saying 5 feet is my preferred length for my listening headphone cable. If this is a headphone I'm using in the studio to record... give me the longest cable you can... hell put it on a spool.

6-7 feet. I listen right next to my amp (3 feet)- at my computer; but for late night sessions I like to sit in a nice comfy chair- a little further away from my amp, so more slack is needed.

I said short (4-5') but I also prefer an extension for that for times when I want the full 10-12'. Only problem is that the connectors are so bulky and weighty.

6 feet is perfect for my desktop listening. Enough to recline in my comfy office chair, but not too long to get caught in the chair wheels.

My recables are 5ft. I like it this way because I have enough room to relax in my chair, and when I listen up close the cable is manageable. I'm never mobile when I listen.
