I have the PWD running 2.02 and was wondering if anyone compared the Astell & Kern Ak100 as a transport vs using a PC with Jriver? Curious to see if it will be an improvement.

I think I may have just taken possession of one of those "bad" PWD MKii's. Has anyone here sought redress from PS Audio for this issue? A warranty claim perhaps? Besides the firmware updates, is there a hardware solution i.e. swap out a card?

What is wrong with it?
Swapping out a memory card worked for me when mine wouldn't update.

I'm talking about the issues identified by Purrin et al. regarding the sound being congested and veiled. For the price I paid, I certainly wasn't expecting it to be outperformed by my Yulong DA8.

There never was an issue.  Just a simple matter of the Mk1 and Mk2 not sounding that similar and some preferring the Mk1 while the rest of the world prefers the Mk2.  The only part that has changed over the life of the Mk2 is the screen and control board for the screen.  You might just be a Sabre person.  I am not

Do any of the MKII updates change the sound?

I'm sure the firmware changes have some effect on the process but I never noticed a change I could point to and say... that's the one.  Basically been about running the firmware with the least bugs for me.

PWD Mk I. upgraded to Mk II. are different than the Mk II. that were sold new.  I have some notes somewhere- but manufacturing site changed, etc.
 
There are things that I like about FW 2.02 better and things that I like about the newer FW better.  2.02 is more "natural/easygoing" up top but lacks some impact and seemingly, extension down low.  The newer firmware is more dynamic/lively but with HD800 & depending upon tubes I can find it edgy up top.  Will depend upon preferences and chain/transducers which FW you prefer.  I find more difference in FW than in filters.
