sorry for the off topic, anyone drive the HEK with Violectric 281 in balance mode in Singapore? I wish to know if it's a good match with Chord Dave and HEK.

With regard to the HEK and the Chord Dave, why don't you pop down to AV One to demo both? Just ask for Jeremy. Just tell him Kiats suggested you see him. :)

Thx Kiats, what I need is someone's Violectric v281. I will supply HEK and Chord Dave, to see if they works well. Because in Sing no one carry Violectric yet.

Indeed! I recall Fengwei007 had a V200... But not heard of the V281 in Singapore at this stage. sorry.

Btw, you intend to use the Chord Dave just as a DAC? It may well be that you may find better value with a dedicated DAC rather than a integrated unit.

Well it took me 6 months to decide between this and the LCD4, the Abyss or the Stax 09.
Streamed it down to the LCD4 and the 1000 and Audeze announcement about possible upgrades put me off the Audeze. It's a long way to return to from UK.
So here we are.

Congrats, and the HE1000 sounds lovely with your QP1R as well! :beerchug:

I think this is a good example to show the manufacturers that upgrades made shortly after releasing a product is often NOT seen as a plus, but rather a deterrent for people who are going to buy the product, not to mention releasing a new products or minor upgrades and looks every two months or so. The second part of the last sentence has nothing to do with Audeze though.

I think the QP1R is the only DAP that can drive the HE1000 without an external amp.
Though I do look forward to trying the alternative amp modules when available on the Fiio X7.
and yes you right it sounds lovely at High Gain volume around 40.

HM650/802/901 (not 901s) with balanced or discrete amp card have much higher output power than the QP1R. From my own test in store, the QP1R is way too weak to drive the HEK properly, can't compare w the HM650 and discrete amp card combo as far as output power is concerned when matched with the HEK.

Maybe you didn't have the QP1R on high gain?
Seriously man it drives the HEK very well at 2/3 max volume.

Hey guys, sorry if this question has been asked before. I've owned the HE-400i for over a year (grill cloth removal mod) and absolutely love it, especially with my first desktop amp (Audeze Deckard) and Schiit Bifrost Multibit. Both the amp and DAC brought detail and musicality to those headphones I didn't know existed.

I honestly never thought I'd own the HE-1000 anytime soon but I recently came into some unexpected money, so I thought I might "end" my search for an endgame system much sooner than later.

My question is, could anyone who's heard the 400i and the HE-1000 tell me just how much of an upgrade the HE-1000 is? Could you put both on a ten-point system? Would the leap from 400i to HE-1000 be a leap from a 4 to a 10, or smaller, from a 7 or 8 to a 10?

Thanks so much for help!

Diminishing returns hits really hard - I don't have the older HE400i, but the new one is quite nice. Listening to both the HE1000 and HE400i (new model) through balanced cables on a Liquid Carbon, fed input from a Gungnir Multibit, the delta seems more like a tuning than a pure upgrade. I'm not going to give you a points scale though (might make me sad). And I prefer the HE1000 (duh), but it really makes you think about the $299 (when I bought it) value for the HE400i versus the $2999 for the HE1000.

I get more sibilant sounds from the HE400i, and I get more nice, clear, relaxed treble sounds from the HE1000.

Thanks so much for the insight! All I know is that my first multibit DAC has really got me itching for the Gungir to see what even greater gains it gives my system, and I couldn't imagine what an even better 400i could sound like. Hopefully I can try the HE-1000 some day soon, even if it's buying it and auditioning it.

I own both the 400i and the HE1000. I personally would say that the HE400i would be like a 7, while a HE1000 would be a 10.

Yeah, the 400i is quite good, but the HE1000 is noticeably better.

Thank you for the response! Clearly you thought it was worth the price difference enough to keep it. I want to try the HE1000 so badly now. Anyone in this thread live in the Boston area, haha?

To be honest, I was one of the beta testers for the HE1000 - so I got it at a lower price than normal. At what I got it for, I did feel the HE1000 was worth it considering what else is on the market. However, at $3000, I would have to think more carefully about whether it was worth that much over the 400i - though I wouldn't classify the HE1000 as a total ripoff.
