Had it. Very stiff, retains a bunch of memory, but it has a very low resistance, and it's the brightest, fastest, most controlled I've owned.

I can deal with stiff. I just want the cable to make the X1 shine some more. Thanks for your insight.

Of the cables I'm making, I'm surprised that they all opted for copper. I would have thought someone would have gone for Silver-plated copper. It's probably part of the reason why that cables is on the much brighter side.

Maybe i'll make another one with SPC and have MLE compare it to the one I sent him. Always curious to see what different people hear. If it is, maybe put it on a X1 "tour" to see how others compare it.

Oh anyone know how these compare to the q701s? That deal is tempting me but I might need to sell the q701s to fund them....

They are absolutely two different beasts. It depends on your preferences, my friend.

The Q701 is thinner, lighter, drier, faster, more mids (and upper mid), and airier.  Less body and weight to mids and bass.  The soundstage is a bit more distant sounding and instruments float more.

I've been enjoying the X1 off my E17+E12. More so than the D03K+E12, which sounded just a hair thin. I do think the D03K is a great dac especially at it's price, but the E17 has a fuller sound which helped the X1 a bit. The X1 is also a fantastic low volume level headphone.

My only complaint now is that the bass is giving a little fatigue. I'm sensitive to certain bass, and the X1's is starting to creep up on me. That's not even an issue of emphasis of bass, more or less how the bass comes through. Hell, I had the same problem happen with the Q701 which has much less bass, yet I have zero issues with the HP-800's bass which....is basshead heavy (much more than the X1). I hope it doesn't get too problematic...

I get bass fatigue the less detailed and textured the bass is while being powerful (and sometimes too or even overpowering) at the same time. Let's say "onenotyness". I never have or had this with HD 800, LCD-2, TH-900. Hard to single out the HE-400 as its zingyness annoys me before anything else. Do you feel similar?

Also the driver of the X1 delivers much more energy to your ear than others. The Signature DJ is 50mm as well and it can punch damn hard like thunder and hits heavier than any ortho. Could be one reason.

I didn't have a problem with the HE-400's bass whatsoever. But like you, the zingyness did start to aggravate me a bit.

I'm not sure. I owned the Pro 900 which hits like a mack truck, as well as the XB700, XB500, DT770 pro 80. None of them bothered me despite the varying levels of bass heaviness.

The Koss UR40, Q701, and I forget some others bothered me WAY more.

the X1's bass fatigue isn't TOO bad, but I'll keep it in check. If it starts to become a factor, I may have to do something about it.

Lol, I can't afford to even buy a Schiit Magni, let alone a TH600/900

You will trade off mids for more excitement in the bass. I personally find the X1 to be quite an improvement overall.
