New Hifiman HM-802 DAP Announced

Hmmm... The HM-802, like the HM-901, can only act as USB DAC via the upcoming dock. There is another option for you: getting a refurbished HM-801 currently available on Head Direct.

I have an hm801, mine needs repairs how ever.

The HM-802 is burning in nicely. The sound has not changed all that much: still warm, musical without any veil in the mids. In fact I will say that for vocals, it is a dream with the Fitear 333 - what Gavin once described in the Fitear CIEM thread comes to the fore in this combo: that you feel as if the female singer is caressing your ears as she sings.

What I will say is that the HM-802 is thoroughly enjoyable. :)

How is the low end for the hm802? i am still waiting to try this dap when the local stores actually get one, since i want to know if it truly fit my taste

I find the low end good: it may not be as tight as that of the HM-901 but it is not bloated either. It's much the same sig as the 901 but warmer and more lush. Have a listen when you get your hands on it and see if you feel the same way.

With easy-to-drive IEMs, how long would the battery last?

I must confess I haven't actually measured. But I have the 802 on probably about 7 hours in the office and it's only about halfway drained (based on the indicator). I use either the fitear 435 or 333.

That would mean it does over twice battery of 901?

Mike, that assumes the battery indicator is accurate... which I wouldn't bet anything on.

I heard the battery life is around 10-12 hours. Sounds like a good compliment to the 901.. tempting!

haha after X5 yet another DAP? I think the use of DAC chip consumes less power hence the battery life improvement...

Haha still on the fence, too many toys at hand so not in a hurry.
Agreed about the power consumption of the DAC chip.
I was actually thinking about getting the 801 mainly bcos of the famed PCM1704UK (it's being discontinued), but if the 802 could kind of emulate the sound signature, I'm all for it.

Could anyone kindly advice how is 802 vocal portion compare to 801.

Thanks man.

The price is not really high like 901.

I'd love to hear that as well, some one has mentioned the hm802 isn't... as thick and slow as the hm801. So that may mean a touch less emphasis on low mids, or even less decay on the hm802 as opposed to the h801, or the hm802 could have more attack. Just speculation from me at this point, my only DAPS have been the hm601 and hm801 so I lie the Hifiman sound lol, although I really do not like the design an asthetics of the new models
