New Hifiman Headphone HE-400 is out

correct. i understand that, but how does one define the word "properly". :)

I never said that everyone should just drive it out of iPhone, and call it a day. What i was saying is that it does give you surprisingly good sound IF one decides to drive it directly out of something like an i-device. You have an option. :)

Getting loud volume does not really equate to being driven properly

Hifiman's new amplifier EF6 (see link below). Fang just came to the States couple days ago to prepare for their upcoming CES show. After i heard the news, i immediately called him, and he was generous enough to let me borrow their new product HE-400 and EF6 for a while.

I am new at headfi and i bought the He300 for a couple month and enjoying it.
So i am wonderingwhat is the difference interm of sound between He300 & He400.
He300 being a dynamic and He400 being planar..

I could have sworn I posted here a few hours back but oh well.

blankdisc, from your descriptions of the bass it sounds like a better HE300 in an ortho driver. The first thing I noticed was the bass of the HE300 which is not usually the case with the Hifiman cans and that it was unusually warm for something to come out  of this company. I'm intrigued even more about the HE400 now :)

Lucky proactive you :)

Hope you post impression and especially comparisons with HE500 using other (less monster like) amps as well

Hmmmm...

I've always been interested in grabbing a HiFiMan Ortho, but I've always been concerned about the cups being deep enough for my ears.  Any idea how to figure this out for sure?

i'll help you figure it out:
if you have average sized ears, the cups will be too shallow.

Hifiman has recently added an extra layer of form in their new leather pads. it should resolve this issue for most of ppl.
The HE-400 i am wearing right now comes with this type of leather pads.

I have big ears. It's tough enough to squish them inside the M50. AD700 feels like heaven though.

You said you've heard the HE-4 before right? Would you mind doing a brief comparison of them and the 400?
Which do you think would be better for metal? Does it carry over the aggressiveness of metal very good?
thanks, happy listening.

How about a different sort of question, Is there anywhere that sells these that would be easy to return them to?
