I haven't personally listened to the W5000. The way I see it, the W5000 has very polarized opinions. Each to their own of course. This makes it really hard to define differences between the W3000ANV and W5000. The differences are certainly there I believe. But how you intepret those is another question
Even that I own it I have not tried them with it. I used them al the time with my WA5-LE but I will give them a listen tonight and let you know tomorrow.
They are great with the V200, that is all i used them with at first. It complements the W3000anv's sound signature in my opinion. Be aware though that i have not used this combo in a while in that my Zana Deux remains in line for the HD800s and I usually switch to the W3000anv with the Zana still in line instead of changing over. Zana Deux trumps the V200 in transparency and detail but the v200 while detailed adds some warmth. The Zana Deux is in another league though, even if i like the v200 a lot.
Anyone try the W5000 case with these? Anyone know how to get the case? Maybe use the LCD case?
It's not an issue at the moment as these live on my Woo Audio stand. However I'll switch to another can soon and the AT box isn't that great for storage.
It is a very warm and tubey kind of sound. I think that warmth takes some of the detail away but at the same time is very organic and easy to listen to. The bass is really good as well as the midrange but the treble is not as extended as with my WA5-LE. To me the biggest difference with the Woo is in the soundstage. With the Woo the soundstage is huge, to the point that you can not believe you are listening to a closed headphones. With the V200 is a more normal size for a closed headphone design.
Clearly the V200 it is not the WA5-LE but is also 20% of the cost of my WA5-LE with all the upgrades. Another big difference is that I am using the Woo with a PWD MkII and the V200 is using its own internal DAC with a toslink cable. I am sure the sound will get better and soundstage bigger with a good external DAC but not at the level of the WA5-LE for obvious reasons.
Thanks - nice to see another member with some thoughts on the source. Head-fi has seen a general over-emphasis of differences between headphone amps and an underestimation of the importance of source. The PWDMk2 is surely a very fine piece of source gear - but at the same time I have read reviews that it sounds a bit harsher than the Mk1 although extension on both ends is better. Please let me know your view.

I personally like the MkII over the MkI but it also depends on the firmware running. I thought the 2.1 was a little bright (That could be expressed as harsh) so I tried the 2.0.2 but I though it was a little too warm to my taste so I switched to the 2.0.3 and that was just perfect for me. It is detailed without being bright and with a touch of warmth.
My heart skipped a beat when my W3000ANV's cable got tangled in my desk chair's arm rest and fell about 3' to the ground onto hardwood floor when I scooted back to get up. Thankfully they survived with the most minor of scratch that's barely noticeable. I've now wound up most of the extra cord into a loop so that it doesn't dangle as much. Since I use headphones at a desk, I've always hated these 10'+ long cables and wish there were shorter length stock cable versions offered.

I nearly died when my W3000 fell on the group because my chair hooked the cable as well...luckily it landed on the plastic bit between the earcups and the wood and did not get scratched...
Regardless if I was trying to sell them or not. I still wouldn't leave them out of the original box . Much safer that way IMO. They are collectors items after all.
